:'( I have had my 2 boars for about 5 months, but they don't seem to be bonding with me i try talking to them and offering food with my hands but they just run away and hide from me. Id really like it if i could cuddle them and for them to come to me when i open their hutch. Any tips would be much appreciated

Hiya,

Welcome to the forum. :) It does take time for pigs to bond with us and they are naturally timid and will run away until they trust you completely. I had this problem with my two girls especially Fleur she wouldn't take food and would run away. Since offering her a pen in the living room for her and her sister to play in she is more placid and will take food.

I've found giving them floor time a great help. :)

Just keep going with the food and cuddles it will all fall into place. :)

Good luck!

I think it can take a while and when they are young they are very fidgety as they get older they seem to calm a little thats what I have found with mine.

It sounds like you are doing the right thing by encouraging them to take food from your hand, you could get them out and sit them on your lap for a short time and gently smooth them or tickle under their chin they will get used to you its good to start getting them out and sitting them on your lap so you can trim nails and check them over with ease. Maybe when they are on your lap you could give them a treat of their fav veg.

don't worry too much they sound like they are happy piggies with a great piggy mum O0

Thanks for that, i will carry on with what I'm doing, I'm also going to get a pen so they can have some floor time and ill let you know how i get on. O0

Hi and welcome :)

2 of my boys are about 6 months old and although they don't like being picked up they will now happily be cuddled.
They were bribed often with veggie treats. :)
Two I have adopted recently are still getting used to us, one 6 months has started taking food. The older one 2 years, won't.
They too like cuddles.

Time and bribery with food works wonders.
Good luck. :)

Welcome to the forums.

It does take a while to bond.Sit down talk to them. Then put your hand into the hutch and try stroking them if they run away its normall. Most piggies appearntly dont like getting stroked in the hutch. However much the piggie runs pick it up.Sit down with it and stroke it and give food to it when sat down this is how me and crispy bonded.

When you go to see them for the first few weeks always give them abit of food or hay.Never bite the hand that feeds.Just keep picking them up and then they will in time get used to you.

When they squeek/Run to the door soon as they've heard you you know you've cracked it.

It took me and my piggies about 6months to properly bond.

Good luck.

xx
