aargh people I'm so upset. its been one problem after another since i got the boys but iv picked up craig this morning and on his belly he has grown two little teets. I thought he looked fat... I'm fed up because i was assured he was a boy even the vet checked and said he is a boy.. definitely got 2 teets there. at the far end of his bellythere are 2 little teets.

my mate is coming round at tea time and I'm devastated as i know i cant keep them all and i cant keep them both if ones a boy and ones a girl. I'm gutted, bin crying my eyes out.cant believe this has happened.

if anyone can help me id really appreciate it, my heads a mess at the moment not sure if ill be able keep them or owt I'm not an experienced guinea pig owner only had them 3 weeks.

I agree with Joanne. All guinea pigs have nipples regardless of sex. When you look at their bits, do they both look the same? I imagine that your vet would be able to tell anyway. Please try and not worry :)

Boars are supposed to have nipples. Mine has 2 also!

Boars do tend to be generally bigger than sows but if you think his tummy could be swollen or tender then I would perhaps look into that. He could be perfectly fine though.

Sorry that your experience of being a piggy owner hasn't been all plain-sailing so far and understandably not what you expected. If I'm honest I didn't fully understand or apreciate the commitment I was taking on when I got my first guinea pigs, with the worry and heartache mixed in, but it's not all bad so try and stick with it if you can. After 3 years of good times and bad times I don't regret beoming a piggy owner and can't imagine my life without piggies.

It's especially hard when lots of problems come along at once but then you could find that everything settles down and is fine for a long time. Some guinea pigs live a long and healthy life without ever needing to see a Vet whereas others have more health issues and greater needs. I guess it's the same with us humans.

One thing that is the same for all pigs though, is that they'll love you back unconditionally and I find that makes all the hard times worthwhile.

Really hope Craig is ok and you can get some peace of mind soon x

thank you for all your support, iv just read this post and stopped blubbering.

well do you guys think it might be nipples? iv never seen them before though thats the thing, do you think they have just grown or something? hes 12 weeks old.

i did notice there is a big size difference to craig and david craig weighs 540g at 12 weeks old and craig around 340g. craig was generally chunky when i got him. If hes pregnant i dunno what I'm guna do though I'm hoping they are just boobies. i havent noticed any boobies on david tho. My mate is coming at tea time to take a look at them.

i thouoght both their bits looked the same though. David seems to have a bigger man piece than david though. I'm confused. grrrrrrrrr :(

As Missy, has said Guinea Pig ownership is not all plain sailing. My start of piggy life was not so good, but now it's amazing I have 3 gorgeous piggies. Still paranoid but no were as much as I used to be.

I've had my Fred for almost 7 months now... and the girls I'll have 4 months on the 11th :)

Boars have nipples and so do girls. I would firstly calm down! :). Man hoods come in all different sizes too :)). Again like humans He does seem really light though, do you weigh them regularly?

iv just had a look at the sexing pictures and craig to me looks like a boy but I'm unsure.

iv tried to look at the boobs again but he doesnt want me to.

i dunno *** id do without the forum. its been my sanity the past few weeks.

1...2...3 and relax :) I am pretty sure that when your vet sexed them, he would have got it right. I can understand your concerns though as I have been there. Guinea pigs come in all different shapes and sizes so I wouldn't worry about the size difference.

I'm fairly certain the boobs as you call them will be nipples.. Why don't you check the other pig for them?!

I have 3 girls. Erin is just a baby so her nipples aren't that big yet but Eliza is 3 in November and Eleanor is 2ish this month. However, Eleanor's nipples are HUGE compared to Eliza's so may be Davids nipples are much smaller that Craigs.

its david thats light at 340g and craig is the heavier one (the one i thought was pregnant), iv only had them 3 weeks but the vet weighed them both for me i need to get some weighing scales so i can do it weekly.

david is significantly smaller than craig however when i got them craig was the biggest guinea pig there 8)
and the rest were about the same size as david. x

aaw thanks people your all stars xxxxxxxxxx

its eased my mind a bit, i had scenarios in my head of delivering babies and then some more and then some more... ill have a little look at davids nipples in a bit see if i can see anything. I just picked up craig before literally catched a glimpse of his boobs and thought OMG hes pregnant. i get myself into a panic sometimes its a big fault of mine. Its difficult when you care though isnt it not to get so involved.

another thing craig rumble struts all the time. is this not boar behaviour?

When I adopted Connie (r.i.p) she had been living with a boar who had died a few weeks earlier. The previous owner said that there was no way that Connie could be pregnant as the boar had had the snip. However, I couldn't relax until I had it confirmed by my vet :))

As Claire said, guinea pigs come in all different shapes and sizes so it really could just be that one is naturally chunkier than the other, for no particular medical reason.

Another possibility is that Craig could simply be a bit older than David. Not sure where you got them from but you can't always be certain of the exact ages of pigs bought from pet shops - even if they tell you they're the same age it could be that one has been there for a while longer or is from an earlier litter. Just a thought.

If the only reason you think Craig might be pregnant is because he's a chunky fella, although he's always been that way, then I'd be very surprised if he was (although, yes, mis-sexing can sometimes happen.) Definitely start weighing them both regularly though, so you can monitor his weight gain properly.

As I said before, if you really think that his tummy looks overly big or bloated and very out of proportion with the rest of his body, then keep an eye on that. Maybe ask your friend if Craig looks unusual, in her opinion. 3 weeks isn't long - you'll get more confident with experience, as time goes on, and you'll get to know what's "normal" for them. It's nice to hear that you care about them so much but try not to worry :)

thanks missy. I got them both from pets at home. i am guessing i shouldnt of and i know this is a rescue forum. i feel like i did rescue them though - from pets at home. iv had them both to the vets already one with fungal infection and the other with an eye infection. However, both looking a lot better and running around like crazy. Then i noticed the nipple thing and thought great hes pregnant. To be honest i didnt know that the boars had nipples so this post has eased my mind a bit. Anyway, thats what made me think he was pregnant. Craig is a little chunky but i think hes a chunky boy the vet did check them both over properly and said they seemed ok and happy enough. Ill get my mate to have a look see what she reckons, she has said they are boys also... along with the vet, and the guy in the pets store. However, life is always full of suprises. Its definitely the 'teet' as i called it that got my blood boiling. the things we do for our animals haha x

This is the best website for sexing piggies - with LOTS of good pictures.
Boys have nipples, too, and when youngsters grow, they do grow in spurts - going "fat" before "stretching" in length again.

As a rule of thumb, boys' bit look like an "i" - a straight slit underneath a button while girls have a "y" shaped slit underneath a knob.

If you are still worried, please post pictures on here and we can give you our opinion. the clearer the pictures, obviously the better.

thank you i think it does look like a penis. I'm crossing my fingers and toes its a penis.my mate is on her way round now from asda so ill get her to have a look and ill let you all know what she says.xxxxxxxx

my mates been round and told me off.

she said craig and david are both boys and the teets are infact nipples. She wasnt concerned about their weight and told me to stop it because I'm making things more hassle than its worth, so thats me told haha

thanks for all your help.

Excellent news I thought that might be the case, When it's your first piggy you can't help being paranoid, 7 months on I'm still as paranoid as ever :)...

Thats good you have some ressurance. I have two boys and they both have nipples and their man bits vary in size. My girls rumble strut when they are in season but it is less pronounced than when the boys do it. They 'rumble' and waddle from foot to foot. Glad your mind is at rest now..

thanks everyone, panic over... I'm waiting for the next panic now haha:))

i need to stop worrying haha. i knew id b like this when i got them but i made the decision to have them and i will do my best to look after them. i need to chill 8)

sayin that it was me that noticed the fungal infection on craigs face and davids eye problem so i guess being so observant isnt all bad... x
