I NEED ergent help for my guinea pig he had a heat stroke yesterday and as soon as i noticed i washed his limbs and put him in a cool towel i gave him cool water through a cerenge :(. i made him sleep in my room at night and next day he was btr my mother keeps cerenge feeding him mashed cucumbers and mashed mango throgh a cerenge. I'm worried very much for him cause hes only 2 years old and my chubbiest i dont take him to the vet cause she has no trainiing about guinea pigs.. i live in pakistan and so i dont know any shops which cell guinea pig medicine plz some1 tell me what to do!?/

Heatstroke is the same in all animals and needs to be treated as soon as possible. You did the right thing by wrapping him in a cool towel syringe cool water but too much too soon can be bad. The fact that the guinea has not started to respond to what you have done so far would warrant a trip to the vets even if they are not too good with guineas. They may give him some vital fluids and check him over. Hope he recovers soon. Take care.

he started tearing from his eyes(whithe tears) is it something i should be worried about? my other guinea pig is also upset seeing him like this.... i have too keep sirenge feeding his cause hes too week to chew anything hard no mather how small 8...8...8...8...:(

Welcome to the forum, I am sorry your guinea has suffered heatstroke.

The white fluid in the eyes may be completely normal, often it's just when they groom themselves; I honestly wouldn't fret about this too much unless his eyes are streaming with fluid.

It is important he gets fluids into him; heatstroke is linked with dehydration, the most effective way to recover a guinea from heatstroke after the initial cooling him down, is plenty of fluids. Can you request that the vet give him some injections of fluid, even if they do nothing else? Just 10ml either side of his shoulder would make a big difference.

Make sure, if you are syringing him fluids or food, that he is swallowing it. A good guideline is to ensure he is chewing; if he is chewing, he is swallowing. Just take it nice and steady.

Is he peeing or pooping at all? Has he got any energy, is he able to move around himself?

The white fluid is natural, mine often tear and then clean themselves from their eye ducts, so don't worry about that. I think you need to keep the fluids up as much as possible and keep the temperature constant and too much temperature change is not good for GP's. If your GP is very tired and doesn't recover in a few hours and still lying down you need to find a Vet. But Heatstroke can take quite a while to recover from. Good luck.

he doesnt move at all .... hes very dehydrated and can * tell me a name of a medicine to give him I'm very worried hes so week i tried cutting small peaces of cucumbers to eat but he just leaves them in his mouth :( i have no idea what to do!!i dont want to loose another guinea pig!

Honestly, fluids is going to make the biggest difference to him, I don't know of any medicines to help if it is just heatstroke/dehydration.

I recall the vet here injected saline to one of my poorly piggies, but most vets should stock subcutaneous fluid solutions to give other animals. Ringers, Aquafarm and Hartmann's are all brands I have heard of in UK being given to guinea pigs (though I have no experience of the use of them).

I am sorry he is in such a poor state. If he is refusing to swallow what you are putting into his mouth then please don't force him, this can do more harm than good.

He really needs a fluids injection, any vet should know how to do this; but if you can't get that immediately, give him human rehydration fluid (as for diarrhea) by mouth. It comes in packets which you mix with water; one brand is dioralyte.

my piggy still doesnt move much.. is it ok if i leave him inside his tunnel
but i think its very warm but he doesnt feel confortable anywhare else... what should i do?grrrrgrrrr:...:...:...:...:...

roman, i have pm'd a couple fo experienced people to see if they can come and advise you.
if he is able to swallow, please try syringing him a bit of water by mouth

I agree with the above - he really needs something to rehydrate him.
If it's very hot maybe you could lay him on a damp towel to help him cool down - although he may be comfortable in his tunnel it's probably keeping him too warm. Piggies usually recover from heatstroke relatively quickly so I would try to get him to a vet asap - I'm wondering if there may be something else wrong.................

The main thing is to get fluid into him - did you do that? You can overdo the cooling thing. Put a bottle containing cool, not cold water next to him, if you think it is too hot where he is. Replace it when it warms up.

Oh, and he needs salts as well as water, hence my advice about the medicine. Water on its own could actually hurt him. Any kind of jiuce would be better.

Even if the vet doesn't know about guinea pigs then he might be able to do something anyway, so it is definitely worth a trip to the vets. If it is heat stroke then the vet can inject fluid under his skin to help him, even if they know nothing about guinea pigs.

I hope he's ok

is it ok if i give him glucose powder mixed with water? for energy plz tell me quick !

nothing is helping

i cant take him to the vet cause of heavy rains my roads are flooded its a sunday.......no vet and i need to know can i give him glucose with water

Do you have access to anything like Dioralyte? I'm afraid I couldn't answer the glucose question although Dioralyte certainly contains glucose, I would be unsure of the quantities.

Okay, here is a rough rehydration mix:
Oral Rehydration Mix

1 liter of purified water (filtered and treated, boiled etc)
½ level teaspoon of salt
8 level teaspoons of sugar. The sugar can be whatever you have available, white, brown, raw, molasses, even honey.
½ cup of fruit juice or crushed banana

That's from http://www.bushcraftusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7698

He's not going to need a whole litre, so you can reduce the quantities in proportion. A guinea pig is supposed to drink 40ml a day; he may need more to start with,

Maybe I'm misreading your question - if you've already got him rehydrated but he's not eating by himself, he would be best fed with his normal food, ground up and mixed with water. Although some glucose as well might help.

hes still not rehidrated his condiotion is detoriation is it ok if i leave him in a aircondishoned room at 26degrees

Give him the glucose powder +water; if possible add salt and fruit jiuce as I mentioned above. 26 sounds a bit high to me, but maybe he's used to higher temperatures where you live; I don't know.

our average temp is 33-26 degrees.. so its pritty hot and now his condition is worse hes still not full hydrated and has a bacterial infection and my vet is scared to give him antibiotics.he has a fever and 103.3 temp

its all too **..
