My guinea pig nibbles is 6 years old and she is not eating or drinking at all. Her poops are small and not often. He nose it a bit clogged and her eyes have discharge in them. She is also very puffy and sleeps a lot. She just got her tooth trimmed a week or two ago. She was given inflammation medication, which she did not like. She also did not take it unless we fed her something and we showed it into her mouth. I do not know what to do. Is it because of the medicine? Is it because she is old? Someone please help!

please have her seen by a vet as an emergency! Illnesses can escalate very quickly and she will need to be syringe fed with critical card if she isn’t eating. There’s a link about syringe feeding on this site that will help you: Complete Syringe Feeding Guide
But PLEASE get your pig seen by a vet ASAP

She needs to be seen by a vet as an emergency (out of hours if your vets is not open or tell your vets that it is an emergency if they are open) for correct diagnosis and treatment. It sounds like she has some sort of URI and this can be fatal as piggies will put the need to breathe ahead of the need to eat. Poops show what went in 24 hours ago so if her poops are smaller and infrequent she has not been eating enough for at least a couple of days. Please step in to syringe feed.

SHE STARTED EATING AND DRINKING AGAIN. Its very little but at least she is getting stuff in her system

@amber123 can you try soaking some of her normal pellets in hot water, then let it cool down & see if she'll eat it off of your finger or a spoon - if you have no syringes available or are not confident syringe feeding her without aspirating her?
it'll probably be messy, but she needs to keep her gut moving/digesting food.
have you tried a handful of grass/dandelions or some veg chopped up/favourite foods to tempt her to eat?
sounds like a URI if stodgy eyes /clogged nose, etc

can she breathe properly? maybe have a cloth with olbas oil on it near the hutch/cage (out of reach of your guinea) that may help clear her airways to ease breathing & make sure her bedding isn't damp or dusty.
the puffiness is often a sign of pain, if she;s fluffed up & hunched in a corner she needs Pain relief ASAP. are you vets guinea savvy as if the teeth have been trimmed & there are burrs left or not been done correctly she could have a dental issue thats been made worse by the tooth treatment.

please get a vet to check her over & prescribe any medication needed. i've had guineas in the past that have recovered fully from URI's but she will need to be seen swiftly to give her the best chance.

has she been eating properly since having her teeth done? this could be part of the problem/try strips of food & see if she mouths it or eats it.
tempt her with different hays if possible.

healing vibes being sent. for a full & speedy recovery. xx

Thank you very much. She started acting normal today! She is eating more, drinking more, and she does not sound like she is having trouble breathing any more. She moves around a lot more and is squeaking again! The vet only comes certain days, so we will call to find out.
