Hello everyone. So last night I went to work at 8pm and I made the stupid mistake of leaving the straighteners on and by 12 am my room has caught fire and unfortunately my piggies got caught in the blaze. But luckily my grandad went in and saved them I am absolutely heartbroken they’re at my neighbours right now but they won’t move and look petrified. I really want them to be I haven’t stopped crying since coming home trom
Work

@Chloegkenny I would have them vet checked in case they are suffering from any smoke inhalation.

Pigs tend to be quieter when in different situations so it may just be the fact they are in a strange house that is making them so quiet.

Well done to you Granddad for going in to save them. He's a star!

My grandad had to have oxygen I can’t thank him enough for saving them they’re my world I'm
So upset how could I be so stupid! The fire was so close to them as well I’m so lucky to still have them

I would recommend that you get them to see a vet to have their chests and breathing checked out. Your grandad sounds like a hero.
Don’t beat yourself up. We’ve all done daft things in the past. Most of us are just lucky to have got away with it unscathed.

I would suggest you get your piggies checked out by a vet as soon as you can. They may have inhaled smoke or toxins from the burning plastic.

Thank you for your kind comments everyone! They’re back in their usual environment now and they seem fine they still seem shook up and a bit of Earnie’s fur looks to be burnt off as there’s a bold patch :( just waiting to see if they eat anything. If they don’t eat anything tonight then I’m taking them to the vets in morning as it’s sunday today! I’m so happy with my grandad for saving them I couldn’t thank him enough and he claims to not like them, I think norman and Earnie have a secret admirer ;) I will never straighten my hair for as long as I live I'm so sad that it’s happened but so happy tht my piggies and obviously my family are okay

Please take them to the vets ASAP and don't wait. They may seem fine but they can suffer quickly from symptoms of respiratory distress if left. They need to have a good once over to make sure they are fine.

Update:
I have taken my piggies to the vets and they said that they are fine but are a bit startled by it all and to bring them back if I have any concerns. Just prepared them both their favourite treats (cucumber and apples) and they keep grabbing the food and hiding away. Someone was deffo looking down on my little ginger warriors today!

What stunningly gorgeous ginger warriors you have there!!

I'm glad that there are ok and that no-one was badly hurt. Is there a lot of damage to the house?

I always worry about my wife leaving her straightners on especially when she gets up late and rushes. I got a slate tile for her chester of drawers for them to sit on.

Oh bless you we've all dond things like that. I left a plastic lid on our ceramic hob just the other day! Glad the piggies are ok xx

Good to hear the piggies are ok and no-one was hurt.
You will be in shock too.
We’ve all had near misses over something so don’t beat yourself up.

Glad everyones ok. I accidently set my convection oven on fire by putting a microwave pudding in a plastic container on oven setting because i was rushing. I heard the smoke alarm go off and i literally couldnt see down my hall way. I quickly shut the living room door where my pigs and gerbils are. A bit of smoke got to them, but they were ok. I picked the oven up and threw it out the doir. Luckily the flames were still inside the microwave

That must have been so scary. Your grandad is a hero. Glad the boys seem ok. We had a fire in our block of flats a few years ago and that was awful. We got out about 12 pigs and 8 hamsters I think.

were all these your animal? Glad you got them out! In scratby near great yarmouth a garden centre full of rabbits and guinea pigs burnt to the ground, but they went with it. Its horrible to even think about

Huge hugs, how terrifying for them and for you. Don't be harsh on yourself though, we all know there is no way you wanted to start a fire, accidents do unfortunately happen and I am glad everyone is ok. Is your grandad doing ok now?

Omg that's awful. Yes they were all ours. We had more animals back then.

What a scary experience for you all. Good old grandad.. lesson to us all about straighteners..... I always put mine on a cooling mat and can't leave them plugged in as have to use them in the hallway - good thing really .. hope your piggies are soon back to their old self..

How scary for you all. We have all done things we shouldn't have done in the past. Glad everyone and everypig OK. I left a plastic sieve on top of the cooker once and turned the cooker on and it melted everywhere!

Done the same with a steamer lid. The worst one was my friend, he thought to cook a russlers burger that you just put it in the microwave exactly as you bought it off the shelf lol..still in the sealed plastic box with a sealed cheese slice inside

Oh how awful for you! Don’t be too hard on yourself, we’ve all left our straighteners on at some point! Most of them are made with an auto shut off now if they’ve not been used for half an hour xx
