Sorry to hear about your friend's piggies Choloe. If the little chap is passing blood in his urine it could be the start of an infection or possibly bladder sludge or stones. We have, unfortunately, experience of both :(. Alternatively, has your friend been feeding more red foods recently, I've read somewhere that certain foods can stain the urine, although if the boys are together I would have thought this would have affected them both. Is he hunched or crying at all when weeing or pooing?

When we have had pigs with bladder problems we have been recommended a course of Septrin (antibiotic) plus probiotic and have increased the amount of fluids the piggy takes - most bladder pigs seem to be bad drinkers in my experience. Both sludge (gritty whitish substance seen on the bottom of cages etc.) and stones irritate the bladder wall making it inflamed and eventually bleed. Your friend really needs to get her piggy checked by a vet, an x-ray will rule out stones. Unfortunately, if it is a stone it is harder for boys to pass these due to their anatomy. I know it's difficult to find a piggy savvy vet but please recommend your friend gets her little guy checked out.

Good luck.

Ooh Choloe, sounds like what we've had with Roly - she needs to get Beanie checked out by a vet - hopefully it won't be a stone.

Let us know how she gets on.

I agree, send her our best wishes. Maybe recommend she doesnt keep the boys apart though as they may not re bond again :smitten:

owner of the piggy brothers has weighed the boys their weights are;

Beanie weighs 1015 grams and Bindy 1103 grams.

hoping these are good weights, certainly heavier than my girls.
any help greatly appreciated. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

here is the latest update; makes me so mad, people ask for help and then refuse to take it! beanie has NOT gone to the vet! :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: thinking it was a bit of straw or hay stuck in his private part causing the bleeding. here is what she is doing for beanie;

Update

Bleeding seems to have stopped. I rang 1 of the local pet shops to see what they suggested, they said give carrot tops and other high Vit C food, Cranberry juice in their water, give him a play outside in this cage to get a bit of sun and see what happens.

He seems to be happy and still eating so hopefully the worst is over.

Off to town now to get some juice.

I've scrubbed out the outdoor cage so it will be ready when I get back to take him outside for a little while.

so am sorry for wasting your time. the important thing is that beanie is better and it seems the bleeding has stopped. thanks to those who replied. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

missed all this! :( ::) Well i'm glad he's better but still can't help thinking he should see a vet for a checkup? Piggies can hide things well :-\

have told her as politely as i can he should see a vet, but it is like what i have been saying. people here in oz don't take guinea pigs to the vet here. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: sadly it is cheaper to buy a replacement. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: just hoping and praying beanie is better, for the kids sake. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

aww mary it's not your fault you can only suggest, it's their silly fault :'( :tickedoff:
