Hello, I was hoping for some help in sexing our baby Guinea pigs who are now 7weeks old. Having bought 2 ‘girls’ we had surprise babies although looking up gestation periods there’s a good chance one may have already been pregnant when we bought her. I have tried following the sexing guides but as first time Guinea pig owners I am still unsure. Any ideas?

Hello and welcome to the forum. I’m not qualified enough to advise. Sorry.

Have a look at your original 2 girls and see if you can compare the babies to them. Girls have the fleshy seal inside their slit. Also girls don’t have hard grain rice like bump above the genitals.

You could try expressing the penis if you think you have males.

How many babies are there in the photos? How old are they now. I’m assuming they are all living together? Once babies reach 250g or 3 weeks in age males need to be separated from females as they will be able to get all the females pregnant.

I’d take them to the vets today for them to sex them urgently so you can separate any males. Good luck.

Hi

Sorry that this has fallen through the alerts. I am currently not well and cannot be on the forum all the time, so alerts can build up quickly and push others down.

The fully ginger bum and the white bum seem to belong to girls and the two colour could be a boy from the general formation but I cannot be 100% sure. The last picure unfortunately doesn't display in a way that I can see the genitalia unimpeded.

Please feel all babies above the knob after feeling the mum so you know how a sow feels. Boars have a very small but distinctive penis shaft ridge under their skin just above the knob; about the size of a basmati rice corn in babies. This is often the real clincher.

This picture shows you where to feel for the presence or absence of a penis ridge. Mum will provide you with the 'absence' feel. My guess is that one of the pups may turn out to be a boy but I don't want to call it just from the pictures.

Again, sorry for the lack of timely response.
