Hi,
I'm Ed the piggy and I'm massively loved by my family.
My mummy is getting a little worried that I have a scab between my nose and mouth the past few days, I had this same scab a few month ago which left on its own but has reoccurred 😯(please see photos) I am now no longer allowed to have apple treats (which I arent happy about) do you think this is why I have a poorly? I have a brother James who lives with me and I am worried that it could be passed onto him? Though last time it didn't 😊 any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance

Hello Ed I would tell your Mummy that you need to see the nice vet man (or nasty vet man if you are Dennis!) so that it can be checked out and you are given treatment for it. Your poorly does look sore!

Hi! Please have Ed seen by a vet for cheilitis (lip infection). The acid of too much fruit/tomato or little fruit treats fed too often (like on a daily or near daily basis) can cause tiny cracks in the skin through which bugs can enter; this can be fungal, bacterial, microbial or even nastier.
Your vet may have to consider whether to treat for fungal or bacteria first, or do a two-pronged approach.

It is not infectious, but please stop feeding any fruit or tomato at all!

Thanks for your support guys! Took Ed to the vets, seen by 2 people and they feel its just a scab that will go away maybe caused by scratching? 😕 although I'm pretty sure its cheilitis after looking on Google. But salt water on a cotton bud for a few days and fingers crossed they are right! If not back to the vets 🤞

Oh bless poor Ed. Vets that are knowledgeable enough to diagnose and treat guinea pigs accurately can be difficult to come by. If you are UK based you can try our vet locator on the top bar as this is where our members have found vets to be good

Just an update... Eds nose is back to its lovely self 😀 salt water 3 times a day did the trick! Thanks for all your help 😊
