Hello everyone well i havent been on here for a while...

i have just been having cuddles with teddy and noticed hes got a few scabs on his body and he is constantly like shivering when i stroke him. he has black fur so i inspected and noticed there is a lot of flakey skin and dandruff in his fur. Anyway, i put my head torch on to get a proper look and i could see mites or something crawling around on him i feel awful i think he has been like this for a while as i noticed he has been shivering when i stroke him for quite some time.

Teddy lives with david so i am guessing that david has probably caught whatever as well.

What can i do to help him people? and what could it be will it be mites? i feel ill now I'm itching all over. They were definitely moving and crawling my headtorch is really powerful it lit up all his skin.

please help :(

Best to get them to the vet as soon as possible to determine excatly what it is.

I'm going to take them to the vets in the morning just wondered if anyone could help tonihgt?

iv jsut looked at david and he has got the same and a big clump of fur with skin on the end came off on david :(

It sounds more like static lice rather than mites as mites can't be seen with the naked eye. Gorgeous guineas sell a shampoo called lice and easy. All piggies that havr been in contact with Teddy will need to be treated. I suspect the scabs are from Teddy scratching

Its definatly best to pop him to the vet to determine exactly what it is so it can be treated. :)

Hope he feels better soon.

Claire iv just checked david and he is the same and got a few scabs. however, i just touched a scab and a clump of hair fell out? is this normal?

what i can see is like white bits like dandruff everywere and flaky skin but on teddy i saw the white bits moving?

Do they still need to go to the vets? what will they treat them well.

i my god i am so gutted cant believe they have got bugs.

Are you sure that the white bits are actually crawling? If so, I would still say they were lice in which a vet would probably prescribe a shampoo.

If the white bits aren't moving, then I would say mites due to the hair loss. Is. It possible for you to get a pic?

Don't feel bad as these things happen xx

I can't put a link on here as I am using my phone but if you go on the guinea lynx website, there is a section for skin problems with pictures. That may help you xx

hiyah, i cant give you any advice hon, just wanted to say hi and i hope you are ok, noticed you hadnt been on for ages.

hi guys they are definitely 100% moving i have just had elliot check teddy nad he could see them and i have looked again they are crawling about all over him little white things. david has got hte same thing but you cant see them crawling as clear becasue david is brown with grey speckles in his fur. teddy is jet black and shiny.

i have ordered gorgeous guineas lice and easy 1 st class do we think this will suffice?

guys iv got some johnsons shampoo and some beaphar spot on? should i use this on them is it any good? i was going to bath them then use the treatment or is this not a great idea? xx

it.could be walking dandruff which is a.mite but it could also be lice i use ivermec for mites and xenex for lice works fab ivermec needs 3 treatments 7 days a part x

thanks Claire i will bath them tonihgt with the johnsons and then use the beophar stuff. it says then treat again in a month is that a right?

well its been a crazy night, bathed all the pigs and put that beaophars stuff on.

jeez those mites are awful. they were running to their faces as soon as i dunked them in the water.

Anyway, fingers crossed, ill keep you all posted.

Noticed david has 2 sore feet as well but iv got some ointment that I'm going to try him with from gorgeous guineas xx

Mites you CANNOT see by naked eye - so what they have got is definitely not mites. I would have checked them out for fungal on top of lice - scabs and hair coming out in bundles sounds like that.

I hope that you have made an appointment by now, as they need to be seen by a good vet to determine what they really suffer from, so they can be treated appropriately - lice, fungal and mites all need different treatments.

Hi Wiebke

i am taking them to the vets tonight. I gave them some treatment last night and cant see anything running round on the anymore it was probably lice i dont know the different between mites and lice, they definitely had bugs crawling around all over them.

The problem i have with the vets is you end up telling them what the problem is i know i will go tonight and they wont know what the problem is. However, i want someone to check davids feet to.

Ill let you know how i get on x

thanks guys iv just checked in on the pigs on my lunch hour from work.

they seem ok poor little soles. vets at 6.15pm xx

been to the vets. he said what ever the problem is I'm on top of it because he cant see anything alive on them although he could see some of the dead ones on teddy. he called them walking dandruff.

showed him daves feet he said it looked like a 'callous' and to keep an eye on it!

Oh I am pleased that your piggies are getting better :) Eliza has a callous on her foot. My vet said just keep an eye on it and if it starts to bother her, they'll remove it but she's fine with it xx

Hey you - long time no speak! So pleased you have thigs under control.

How about some up to date photos?

i dont think it is a callous guys its like a red blister like thing it looks sore to me. but I'm really glad i took them just for piece of mind if anything.
