Hi,
We have had our piggies nearly 4 weeks now and i think they are ready for their first bath. I havent a clue where to start! Where do you bath yours? and what shampoo do you use?
Thanks in advance!
Owl xx

I put mine in the bath with about an inch of water... I use Johnsons baby shampoo :)

Hope this helped

I bathed mine this morning in the kitchen sink but they really didn't like the tight space. Think I might try in the bath next time.. I have just taken delivery of shampoo from gorgeous guineas. The link is on the site somewhere, can't remember it off hand but the shampoo is brilliant.. their hair is so soft and they smell quite nice too :)

I do mine in the bath and use the shower set to very very gentle. Keep the water nice and warm. Not too hot or cold and they're more likely to stand still (I find). I position my hand so that the water falls on that first. Does that make sense? ? :)

I use vet sect shampoo and nizoral if they have a bit of fungal and GG shampoo for normal baths.

Always do a 24 hour patch test before trying any new products.

talk to them softly and take your time and you should be fine. have a nice warm towel and a treat ready and enjoy the cuddle afterwards :)

Wilson goes crazy when he is in the tub ;D he jumps up onto me (like 1/2 a metre!) lol poor thing... but he is getting used to it... I used to do them un the bathroom sink but found it was too small :)

I tend to bath mine in the sink - warm water.

I leave my hand in and they hold on (or even if the hold on to the side- this I feel makes them much calmer, also talking all the time to them :)

Awww they look sooo cute in those piccies Kelly! Ton looks a right cutie! :smitten:

I tend to do mine in the sink - I do the same as Kelly, as in I talk to them all the time and keep my hand in so they can hang onto it :)

Make sure you test the temperature of the water with your elbow before lowering your piggy in (just like you do for a baby)

Wilson generaly has to hold onto the side... because if i leave my hand in for him he scratches it trying to jump up :( lol

I don't do mine very often at all. In fact for years I never bathed any of them unless they were messy. But now I think that every now and again will be good for them.

One of the babies (month old now) is a Rex type. His fur is a mass of fuzzy waves. Can't wait to give him a bath - it'll probably go all frizzy and make him look twice as big! (seriously, I won't be bathing him for a long time unless he needs it).

I plan to do mine every month to six weeks. I have also read that you should bathe a guinea pig till around 12 weeks old though.

Merlin gets a bath at least once a fortnight - he needs it due to his habit of lying in his own wee and generally being a dirty pig

One of my guinea pigs (Beano) is a rex and when I bath him his fur just flops! He seems to have twice as much fur as usual! ;D

;D ;D A real bad hair day then! Good job there's no mirrors in there, frighten him to death! I can't believe how thick his fur is, presumably you don't trim it at all? I'm just thinking of the summer. I'm not worried about what he'll look like (within reason!) but just thinking of his comfort in the summer but I don't want to spoil his coat. I'm no expert on the breeds, mine have always been either Abysinnian, short haired or Peruvian which I trim regularly.

The short haired qirglies get bathed every few months as none of them like it, i gave ernie her first bath the other day (v long hair) and it was a total nightmare, got very scratched but she loved the hair dryer afterwards! I use gorgeous guineas shampoo, makes them smell so nice....

Sailor Willie gets a bath every few months. I bath him in the bath tub with a little water, warm but not to warm. He doesn't like it all that much but tolerates it. I use tea tree oil shampoo with neem oil mixed in to take care of all issues. he is actually do for a bath really soon.

the only problem with bathing him is that my 3 cats freak out and think they are next in line for baths than too and they absolutely hate baths.
