best thing to do is to give them a good hair cut as brushing out the mats will be too painful now. Cut the mats out, get a nice piggy shampoo (I can recommend gorgeous guineas posh n go conditioning shampoo for long haired piggies) and then get a good brush and brushing them regularly. I do my long haired at least twice a week
If you are not confident to do this yourself please pop your piggy to your local vet nurse. They have clippers which will not damage the skin. The skin can be very irritated under matted hair so be very careful.
