well as you know if you read my other thread that i gave up a certain piggy who i love8..., which if i could get the bf to agree i could have back as he is going to have the snip and i already have a pair of girliesxoxo (if i could turn time back i would have kept him and got him neutered and then a girlfriend)

http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=39452&page=1

The problem is i am not doing a great job at convincing him so thought if i wrote a pros and cons list he might listen more than my emotional ramblings

Pros
-natural for girls to live with a boy
-no need for a bigger cage
-he is a social wee guy and living on his own as can't make friends with boys
-

Cons
- may cost more in vets fees
-cost a little more in food and washing powder(for the fleeces)

He is worried that adding another pig will cause fighting, thus me stress and more funny turns (plus nasty wounds like tango)

DO most sows accept any neutered boar or are they fussy?

Please help me as if i can't convince chris then jive will not get the snip until spring time as they have to be indoors for 2 days after and that would mean another 4 months on his own!

a neutered boar doesn't make a difference in the hierarchy so there isn't much chance of arguments i would think! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

pro - it will make you extremely happy....and in return should make your fella happy for seeing you happy that your boar is happy to be back....daah daaaah!

I haven't added Mork to the girls yet. BUT I tried to introduce the pair of girls to my existing group of girls and they wouldn't even consider it. The pair of girls just got anxious and tried to fight them and then each other.

When I have put Mork next to them with a grid divider they are totally different. They LOVE him and all the problems there were with the girls no longer apply. I can't say for sure until they are living together but so far it seems very very likely it will work (fingers crossed). I don't think these two would accept other girls though but a boy seems different.

cons:

- vet fees: some piggies go throughout their lives without needing a visit to the vets apart from the odd annual chech-up
- cost: there will be more on food but you're not likely to double the amount of washes you do now. So it's marginal.

I agree with stargrrclaire about behaviour. Can you suggest a trial period, maybe? See if they get on, and if they do you can keep him and if they don't, you know that he has another loving home to go to.

Hope other people can help too.

Good luck.

sneeky{:|, I nearly got lost, but probably the way to go.... play with his head!:x:x:x

hmm maybe if the girls went to live at the rescue for a week to check everything is ok before i bring them home and if the girls say no they have the final word after all that way i would miss them but not get stressed....

Chris is irreplaceable, he is truly a wonderful guy and would not swap him for the world!xoxox

in that case just bring the boar home anyway, if your bf is such a great guy, he will understand....or like most guys...he won't even notice the extra little ball of fluff.....!

he would notice he is not daft, but he is the breadwinner so pays for nearly everything and they live in the lounge with me plus he gives them their nuggets when he gets in from work. The problem is originally i said 1 before doing research he then agreed to 2 and thinks this is the beginning of a very slippery slope as he knows how many pets i had as a child. I just want Jive no other piggy at the rescue even turns my head enough to want to beg for them but Jive is special and don;t get me wrong i love my girlies but he does something to me when i cuddle him and he looks up at me with that floppy bottom lip of his!

he sounds like my sonny with the bottom lip thing! i think he's meant to be your piggy, i felt the same with my boy. i HAD to have him! xxxxxxxxxxxxx

You have been looking after poor little Tango so much that I can understand why you want him back! Why don't you ask for him (and the neutering cost) as a Christmas present?

Feeding and washing will go up less than 1/3; but you have to be aware that there may be higher medical costs at some point in the future.

Both the girls and Tango are young enough to be very interested in each other. The introduction will probably quite wild (humping), but not violent like in a boys' fight, so if you could get Julie to do the introduction for you, that would be great!

I have had my Llewelyn living with Nerys and Nia, before I added more girls, and it was perfectly OK - it IS the most natural way for guinea pigs to live with each other. A boy does not interfere with the female hierarchy, but as he has to get on with each girl in order to mate with her, he is busy keeping the peace and wooing all the girls. For Tango, it would be Heaven on earth!

can't tell him he is the last one as would never keep a piggy on there own! I have said it would be the last one until nature took its course and i was back down to 1!

Wiebke you are mistaken it is not Tango I want back it is Jive, but he just makes me melt

I have even spoken with him and said not get him until after christmas as it would be unfair to move him in and then move him about like the girlies until he had settled a bit more as going back to parents for 2 weeks over xmas

maybe if you tell him how happy the piggies make you and you feel your group would be complete with this little guy?
and if all else fail pull the "if you love me" line :))
My OH originally set my limit at 4 now i have 13! basically i have involved him in all piggy duties especially the fun cuddles and stuff,it seems his love has grown alot just by seeing hopw fantastic they are, maybe try to involve you OH more?
or you could bargain and promise him a much wanted man item he has wanted?

I completely agree i started with 2 then my hubby lost the garage and i now have 12.Neutered or not your sows may not take to him,my daisy refused any other guinea to join her and peaches, but at 4 and a rehome piggie i guess shes entitled to cling onto her comfort zone.
But their are so many GORGEOUS boars out there after homes, claire who runs Guineawigsrescue has plenty all unwanted after breeding so i would say to you if you can get your boar neutered and offer him a home with a sow please go for it ! and give another guinea a forever home.
My picture opposite is of Greg and Toffee,Greg is the rex.He is now a happy rehomed boar !
Your bf sounds great best get him sorted before any bells ...so theres no its me or the pigs;)
helenxx>>>xx>>>

i just spoke to my OH to confirm why he was so leanient with more pigs and his reply "because i love you and piggies make you happy" thats the reason he has caved for so many not to mention my new 4 currently on hold at the rescue:(|),
he said if your OH knows how truly happy the pigs make you then he will let you have him;)
and he did say if all else fails go and get your boy as your OH will forgive you;)

My husband was along the strictly two piggies line - now I have seven; though the last one IS over limit, but she is the one who made even my hubby smil at her in record time! :))

I usually get to my hubby when I tell him that I have been dreaming of a certain piggy, because I care so much...

And I make a big concession to him re. boys toys in return!

I have dreamt of Jive and I miss him and it is so weird as i only had him at home for 12 days but we just seem to have a bond, he just sits so contently with me, I would have been fine if he had found a good home quickly but it really distresses me to think of him sat on his own in the cold with no one of his own. He could be the ONE piggywise, maybe is chris is scared my feeling for jive will overtake the feeling for him

I have always made it a point that my hubby doesn't come short in terms of loving gestures. As I can't have any children, the piggies are my babies, and in that way less of perhaps less of a threat to my hubby.

PS: Love is not a finite resource, but an infinite...

I know love is infinite, but i really really want this piggy and i can;t get him out of my head, it is driving me crazy i am so torn

I think that if you are honest with your bf by telling him how much youyour little boy haunts you and that you just can't forget him, your bf may relent.

8...Hope so fingers crossed8...

I know he get the adequate care he needs in rescue but it just not the same as having a HOME and at the moment there are atleast 6 other single boars at the rescue that won;t live with other boys. It is stupid i worry about him getting cold espcially on day like this where it is raining and the air damp and cold

As already said, if he knows how much it would make you happy, surely he can't say no?

My OH is allergic and after the last of my pigs died earlier this year he was totally against me getting any more unless they lived in the garage. We've compromised now and I have my boys in the spare bedroom :))

All I can say is he knows how much they mean to me and how miserable / inconsolable I was when Fluff died and I was left alone. He's also seen how you cannot wipe the smile off my face now - my mood is much improved and this has obvious benefits for him ;) x)

He sounds like a fantastic guy - go on Chris! Give your lady the best possible Christmas present! :<>

Well tonight i got as a maybe yes which everyone know is a yes, it comes with a few provisos but ones i can live with. Can't wait to go see Jive monkeyman on tuesday and give him an extra big hug and kiss. Now i just have to hope that Furby will say yes too....

So did not sleep last night think i clocked about 3 hours sleep so excited!:))
