my two boars bradders and marble just had a massive scrap and bradders is bleeding from his chin, what should we do? advise needed quickly, have done what you'd due to a child and appplied a little pressure to the wound, trying to stop it but, never had a guinea pig bleed before......

thanks all.

I would clean it up with some cooled boiled water for now...someone in the know will be able to help you more, they should be along soon xx

I dont know how to stop it bleeding, but I dont think you should put them back in together tonight. Do you have a spare cage?

Let it scab over and watch it for signs of pus/infection is what I'd do (from what you're saying). If its a big wound he may need to go to the vet? Thinking stitches but probably not :) The other thing I'd watch for (and this will depend onwhere the wound is) is can he still eat OK?

I'm sure he'll be fine though :) I've just seperated 2 boars that have started niggling each other ::)

hey guys thanks for the advise, from what we can tell its a little nik nothing more than that however, they seem determined to fight each other now, its constant but they just had another tussle, we have no spare cage, but worried about leaving them overnight, they been fine upto now, what causing them to fight like this? if we could sepearte them for the night would they get on again in the morning?

I'd say it's their hormones, how old are they?
They "may" get along after separating, you would need to re-introduce on neutral ground & if they do accept one another make sure their home is cleaned too before they go back in but i would be keeping a very close eye on them.

My boys had a huge scrap after getting along brilliantly for their first few months - I came home to find various wounds. One I took to the vets because his mouth was wounded and he got antibiotics - but healed very quickly. Just keep an eye on it and watch out for infection - it will smell and become full of pus if it's not healing right.

I didn't even try and reintroduce them after that because I didn't want the same thing to happen again. A breeder recommended spraying the male pigs with grooming spray before putting them together - so they don't smell of themselves, but I haven't tried this - has anyone else?

Good luck

Sophie

my pigs wilson and poppy (father and son) are always fighting about 5 seconds after they are put together, Poppy (the son) also does it with my newly adopted pig Basil, so now I have 2 single boars (wilson has a girlfriend)... I think the fighting is just because the younger pig is trying to become boss but the youger one isnt ready to step down.... lol did that make sense?
