I got 3 guinea pigs from a friend who didn't want them any longer. two females and a male. they were all together so i left them together because there was no taking back the pregnancies and i would keep a close eye and when they got big i would seperate them. i work out of town on the weekends and so i have a pet sitter. she failed to mention any of the piggies being sick or anything. when i got home my littlest girl was gone and the other two were very ill. the male had lots of blood coming out of his anus. and the only vet near that's open on sunday is a 2 hour drive so i left a message on my vet's recording to let her know i was bringing them in as soon as they open. my neighbor then said oh yeah i forgot to tell you the little one died. well this morning the other two were dead. they were perfectly fine before i left. they get fresh water, guinea pig food and fresh grains. timothy and alfalfa hay plus oat hay. they are always kept in a clean cage and they were all happy healthy bundles now i'm devestated that this happened. and i dont know why and i dont want to get more because i dont want this to happen again :(

Hi there, firstly, I'm really sorry for your losses, how devastating :(
Unfortunately, unless you go along the post mortem route or unless there's something your pet sitter isn't telling you, this may remain a mystery. I'm not too keen on the way she didn't seem too interested. The way you described her saying 'oh yeah I forgot to tell you one died' sets alarm bells ringing to me. If you were to get more I'd be inclined not to use her again I'm afraid :...

But what's done is done and it could have been a tragic coincidence. But please dont let it put you off, there's lot of piggies in rescues needing new homes all the time :)

Did she give them anything poisonous without realising? Sorry for your losses x

I am so sorry. You must be absolutely gutted. Firstly never use that person again for pet sitting. It could have been something they ate, or just a terrible coincidence. Sorry again xx

they didnt have anything out of the normal. she doesnt really have to do anything to any of the caged animals except water bottles. i leave enough food and hay to last and i leave their food marked and set out if they should. shes not an animal lover so she wouldnt feed them treats or anything. and i didnt allow anything other than nessesities while i was gone anyway just to be safe. the main reason for a pet sitter is the livestock. the others are pretty much set for the short time I'm gone. i was just so shocked and horrified that this happened to them. they were such good piggies and they were so happy :(

Hold on - it is not your fault, they are so delicate.May be good wrong food.Do you have any pictures of them ?
We are not traveling anymore due to can not find proper pet sitter.People not able to spot difference in their behavior,as they behave different when other people near.
