Please help
I cleaned my Boys c and c style cage out last night and they had a new dark brown fleece down. when I moved one of there houses I noticed that there was alot of poops in one corner and that when I swept them up into the pan there were some white powery marks left behind and one poop that was actually white and looked like chalk!
Neither of them are acting differently at all and run around at floor time popcorning and exploring but one of them is VERY small compared to the other.
Nummies is 1100g and Reilly is only 740g they are the same age 7 months old approx
do I need to go to the vet?.. what should I check for tonight? am I feeding them wrongly? I'm so worried I would hate for anything to happen to them ...

I don't think you need to panic; you probably have been giving them something high in calcium.
The only time you need to really worry is when they have diarrhea, very big poos (congestion) or very small, hard poos (not enough intake due to illness or bullying) or if you see them in pain when pooing.

I have whitish specs on poo occasionally; but never in connection with an illness. Hope that helps?

Hi Yes the little white marks were definately powdery.... and the poop that i found was like a small piece of chalk 8...

What food are high in calcium..

they get timothy hay with herbage dandilions etc? could this be it?

they get Veggies 2 times a day. carrot, cucumber, peppers- red yellow and green, celery, baby corn and basil as a treat

You are not giving them food high in calcium, but a low calcium diet can also result in loss of calcium.

FOr a balnced diet it is worth working your way through CCC4's thread on the right calcium:phosphor ratio in piggie food. She has worked out a usable diet plan from the recommendations on the guinealynx medical website.

You find the sticky thread at the top of the food section.

possable diorhia, but don't get worryed because it could be just calcium related, hope you and your piggies are ok, cya,:)p!

If it was diarrhea, the poos would be soft to runny!

There is absolutely no need to worry. What has happened is the guineas have had a little wee ontop of the poop and it has dried white on it. :)

It happens to mine a lot. Especially Ron who poops in corners, he's a good boy! :)

Really? I hope so

that could be the case.. they do tend to poop in corners or in there hay tray .. they are quite good at not normally just letting it drop randomly....:red

Would the pee drying white suggest a problem at all... ?

Sorry for all the questions.. I'm worrying myself to death! :0

As long as it's not gritty or too sludgy, it's probably just fine. The whiteness is just the excess calcium being expelled in the urine. Too much calcium would be suggested by pee that feels gritty or thick/sludgy when dry.

I've had a few pigs do the "chalky poop" thing, but not since I corrected the Calcium: Phosphorus ratio. :)
