Ok well I have two guinea pigs called Sugar and Spice. Sugar had two little babies about 6 weeks ago and that was quite unexpectly as this happened a week after we got her! :l And recently we just found out that the two babies are boys, but because we're first time G Pigs owners, we didnt know that we had to seperate them within 3 weeks as they get active by then..But Spice seems to of started to become quite fat round the face area and the tummy and bum area, so I'm certainly worried that she is pregnant from the babies, and also Sugar was in heat at the same time as the babies were, so I'm quite concered for her aswell, what should i do! HELP please :l x Or how can i tell if Spice is just fat or pregnant?

Have you separated the babies now? The only sure fire way to know is to wait and see if they are pregnant. You could post some pics on here and see if any more experienced members can tell but it will be a week or two yet before they would show.

Don't panic! :)

Are the boys separated now?

Guinea pig pregnancy last about 10 weeks, so if Spice is visibly pregnant (and you can usually only tell towards the end) then it is likely that she was caught before you got her. Likely signs are elongated nipples and drinking a lot.

Unfortunately it is a bit of a waiting game now. Someone will be along soon with some more advice on pregnancy and possible re-homing I'm sure. These things happen, don't be too hard on yourself. :)

Ok yes the babies have gone to a good home now, Spices belly looks quite big at the moment but it feels a bit hard and a bit soft :S Oh and she starts whinying when i toutch her belly. Oh and i will put pics on in a moment

A picture taken from above is probably the best for people to tell if she's likely to be pregnant. Probably best to avoid pressing on/ touching her tummy for the time being.

I am sorry for your situation; you are not the first new owner caught out by bad information.

Most baby boys are coming into their sexual majority between 4-6 weeks, but there is always the occasional early one, so you may have just got away with it if you are lucky.

Your sows cannot be more than about 2 weeks pregnant and won't show yet in any case! What you are witnessing is nutrients finally going toward mummy's body instead towards her babies.

Sadly, you will have to do what every rescue does with sows from a doubtful/unknown source - keep a ten week pregnancy watch! Please weigh your girls weekly (which is a good habit anyway, as you can pick up any weight loss/illness early). Any weight gain over 30/50g is suspect. Usually, you won't be able see much until the second half of the pregnancy. Here is more on pregnancy etc.
http://www.guinealynx.info/reproduction.html also read up links faq and labor

The earliest signs are increased thirst, increasing weight gain and nipples elongating and swelling. Please make sure that you give any suspect sow double the amount of vitamin C in veg high in it.
Here are is a list of veg high in vitamin C:

During the second half of the pregnancy, you also should add alfalfa hay to you timothy hay to cover the increased need for calcium for the pups' bones.

Please do not overfeed your potnetial mums - big babies in a small litter can cause problems at birth. The ideal diet is umlimited good quality hay (up to 80% of the daily intake), unlimited pellets for piggies under 6-9 months and then slowly reduced to one handful per adult piggy per day or less, 1 cupful/50g of mixed veg per piggy per day in however many servings you like.

I wish you the best of luck! Please keep us posted and don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have.
