Hello, I am a long time piggy owner and have never had this occur before. Male rescue piggy, have had him about 6 months, he’s 3 years old and so sweet, loving and gentle. Yesterday for no apparent reason he started to chirp like a bird! He did it in and off for about 5 minutes. Since then he has not been himself. He will eat only if I put lettuce inside his house. He will not come out to drink water or eat hay. I’ve had to get him to drink by dropper. He was in an almost trance for hours. He normally loves play time and if I put him down he runs like he is terrified and hides. He’s currently under my dining room table for the last hour. I’ve examined him and he looks fine. He will eat if he’s hidden but won’t come out unless I take him out. Has anyone seen anything like this? I have 2 other males in 2 cages next to his, and they are fine and acting normally.

Hello he is probably just spooked. Pop him back home in his cage and leave him in his house for a hour or so pop some food in there for him, you'll find he will be fine just got spooked it happens to piggies occasionally. If he eating as you said in cover he is fine

Thank you, I should have mentioned this was from yesterday morning... it’s been a full 24 hours... can they be spooked this long?

My sow has been spooked for 3 days before. Best thing as said above, is to let them go back in the cage, if you havnt got him a shelter like a hidey house, would be food to get one. Anything like a box with an arch way cut out, to hide under

Thank you, oh yes all of my pigs have their own hidey house. I just changed his bedding, fresh water, food and hay. I’ll put him back and keep monitoring.

Piggies can get very spooked on occasion. Is your boy a single piggy?

Please place a sheet over the top of the cage to given him an added feeling of security; place a mound of hay close to where he is sitting.

Thank you, I will read all of this and try it out. Have had piggies for years, never encountered this before!

Here is a video of our long departed TomTom singing. He sang so often that the other pigs ignored him after a while.
