Mork was neutered yesterday and he's seemed absolutely fine. I cleaned him out earlier and he had done loads of poo and wee. he was munching hay and his veggies and pellets this morning.

Since cleaning him out at 4pm today he's not pooped once (it's 9pm now), he has eaten a tiny bit of veggies (a bit of greens and cucumber at about 7pm) . he's refused all other veggies. i did see him nibbling hay once at about half past 5.

When should I be concerned?

He's at the vets tomorrow at 4pm for a check up after his op.

Help please I have no idea what to do for the best.

I really can't offer any advice as you know i'm a novice piggie owner but just wanted to send more hugs your way as it's really not been a good day for you. x Hope Mork picks up soon! x

If he is still eating, even small amounts, then he should be ok until you see the vets tomorrow. Keep him warm, give him his favourite veggies and lots of hay. As long as he keeps eating that is the main thing for now as he needs to keep food moving through his system.
Fingers crossed he will be ok and let us know how he gets on x

Guinea Lynx says he may be eating all his poop as a way of healing himself

Going to syringe him a bit of critical care tonight before bed just to be sure. I am in work all day tomorrow so want to feed him now and in the morning

if anyone thinks this isn't a good idea please say. I don't plan on doing it until 10 ish

Yeah give him some critical care. If you have any baby food, fruit or veggie, you can syringe feed him some of that. If not you can puree fresh fruit or veggie and syringe if he won't eat it. Is he drinking? If not you can syringe him a little water to stop him from getting dehydrated.

we've always syringe fed our guinea pigs if theyre not eating properly. we syringe feed them water as well to make sure they're not dehydrated

Hes not a big drinker but yesterday he finished his bowl of water. Today its gone down but not as much as yesterday. The food he has eaten is cucumber, lots of water.

Glad that you have an appointment for tomorrow
hopefully it wont be anything serious
I think giving him critical care is a good idea as well
sending you healing vibes
x

That's good if he's eating cucumber, that should keep him hydrated.

Syringed him syringe full of critical care and one of water. He seemed okay and took it okay.

Fingers crossed, bless him I so so so hope he's okay.

He should be - some piggies are up and go after an op and others do take longer!

Okay three poops and a wee under the hay rack and I am off to bed.

Thanks as always for the advice and support hopefully poop watch will have more to tell tomorrow.

"Okay three poops and a wee under the hay rack and I am off to bed."

Do we assume that refers to the pig?

You can always trust AP to bring some humour into threads! Must admit, that's the best yet. :))

How is Mork today, Lisa? Good luck at the appointment this afternoon. Hopefully he just needed a bit of syringe-feeding to boost his energy and "kick-start" him again.

I am always very careful about how I write. I can't help but think that one day I shall be caught out myself!

I don't mind!

Anyway, still not eating. Syringed twice. Toileting but a reduced amount.

Any advice?

Only advice I have is to keep going with what you're doing!

How much are you managing to get into him?

He's had about 15ml all in all of critical care and 15ml of water

However I have been out and bought every herb and veggie they can have and he ate a large-ish bunch of basil and he also ate some of a clover cookie (naturals range).

The vet said maybe try a drop of metacam which I may do later if he wont eat his tea amd needs more critical care.

It is a good sign that he is still eating a bit on his own.

Great to hear he is eating some! A bit of Metacam may help; pigs do go off their food when they are in pain, so that may be a small factor.

Another tip is to weigh daily. It will give you an idea of if he is eating enough. If he loses weight, you up the amount of syringe-fed food. Pigs who are not eating anything at all for themselves need a minimum of 60ml per day to keep the system running as close to normal as possible; usually 10ml per feed, with the biggest feeds being last thing at night and first thing in the morning, is sufficient. The more food he gets going through him, the more he'll poop! And of course, all the goodies you can tempt him with. Something will spark his appetite and there'll be no stopping him once he's started! :))

He's out and about tonight talking to the ladies but still not really eating. He's going and smelling the food but that's about it. I have seen him drinking water on his own so he must be feeling better.

Going to syringe later on before bed.

OH and being home now for the next couple of weeks will help - I can give him better care than my hubby who took an hour to syringe 5ml of critical care earlier!

Aww, I hope Mork feels better soon. You must feel so worried! How about banana? It's something they usually like because of the sweetness and it has loads of calories.

Okay his appetite has mostly retuned and this morning his portion of the cage has quite alot of poops in it yay!

I syringed him quite alot yesterday but hopefully today he wont need it.

He even popcorned last night and did his i'm so sexy dance for the girls hee hee.

FINGERS CROSSED

Good luck to Mork - hopefully, he will be back to his old self soon and be busy impressing the ladies!

Sometimes, boars can be a bit slow recovering their weight after a neutering op. As long as he doesn't lose anymore, he should be fine!
