I noticed my guinea pig had a cut above his eye i thought he just cut it while scratching i checked him over and noticed there is a little red patch on one of his ears and on the inside of his legs i can see he has really been itching and it looks really sore is this mites i am going to take him to the vets but would * recommed me bathing him at all or just wait till i see the vet

it could be mites, or fungal. i wouldn't bath him. just get to the vets tomorrow and get him checked, and then they can start him on some treatment :)

eta: with most shampoo's, you have to wait 48hours inbetween them and any mite treatment, so best to not use anything incase the vets want to give him something.

I agree as you haven't dealt with mites before its best to get a vet to confirm it as could be either mites or the start of fungal :)

Please have him seen and diagnosed by a vet. if the soreness is around the eye, it is most likely fungal (especially ringworm, which can transmit to human and other pets) rather than mites. They start typically on the back. However, there are no fast and safe rules. Fungal and mites can look much more similar than the example pics make you think!

You can come back for more tips if you wish once you have a diagnosis.
