Hi guys ive just rehomed a 5 month old boar, hes always been on his own, i would LOVE him to have a companion what do you think? Any help PLEASE i have introduced my sows in together with success BUT I'm just worried with him being a boar...if it could be done would he be better with a baby or around the same age..my other alternative is to have him castrated and wait for the all clear and put him in the girls but its seems a shame when ive got room for me not to find him a friend and for him to keep his bits n pieces... :D

Hi, there's some good advice on the barmy4boars website..

It can be done, we are in the early stages of bonding 2 little youngsters which seems ot be working out OK, so much so that they are in the same cage now. We also have 2 older pigs who play out together but live side by side - you could always take him with you when you go to find a friend for him and see which pigs he gets on with..

Good luck!

if you decide to get another boar, the younger the better as it is more likely he will bond with it, so find the youngest you can.
I had my boars neutered to go in with females, no problems, and you wouldn't have to worry about bonding them at all. You would need to find a vet who has a good success rate with the op, so ask how many they have done, you need one with lots of experience with guinea pigs. you only have to wait 3 weeks to put him in with them, ( although your vets may tell you differently) i waited 3 weeks, some people only wait 2.some more.
keep us informed.

Hi Lizz, well as you have room, I think it would be lovely if your little boy could keep his bits & he had a little male piggie friend :D

If you take him along to a rescue then he can choose his friend. Thats what I did & have had no problems. It's all down to the personalities of the piggies really. Also as your boy is only 5 months he is still growing & developing his personality so that may make a difference. As Katie mentioned, the barmy4boars website has lots of info on there.

Good luck with your decision O0

Its definatly do able- All the boars which arrive at my door find friends- normally younger boars if I can otherwise the little 'op' is the second option

Agree that barmy4boars is a good place to start to gain info, or if you have a rescue near by give them a call and see what they have avaliable

I WOULDNT go and buy a pig from a pet shop -firstly cos there are so many already in need of homes and secondly if they dont get on you will have 2 seperate piggies. 2 seperate hutches etc (doubled your dilema!)

If you go to a rescue they will help you find the best match.

Good luck :)

Thankyou for your advice, this is going to sound extremely thick.....but when i take Mr pig with me what signs am i looking for from him and the other potential pig?
