I should really be able to do this myself but my brain won't function properly and I don't want to run the risk of it not working again soon enough. It looks like I'm going to be heading down into Brighton in the next couple of weeks after all, but really as a self-care thing now. Comet and Blitzen are going to be coming with me, and it's probably going to be traveling by car. Obviously they're going to need their food, nuggets whatever, hay, and stuff to drink during the travel. Bedding won't be a problem and I'm taking both Midwests too, so housing isn't a problem. Is there anything else I'd need?

Sorry if that seems like a really obvious question. I've just found out in the past couple of hours a friend has died. I'm not really sure what I'm doing right now. You get the idea.
 
I am very sorry to hear your sad news mate, my condolences on your loss. Take some time to process what has happened and please be kind to yourself.

it sounds like you have got all bases covered with the boys. Do you have carriers to transport them in. Stop offs on journey to be factored in to give them wet veg etc. Make sure the carrers can be secured in the car. We use the footwells to pack pigs in. No one else in the car with you to hold the carrier?
 
Oh Lorcan I'm so sorry to learn of your loss no wonder your brain is numb! You have my sympathy :(
 
I have one carrier that I use for taking them to the vets in, but would they be okay in the one for the journey? It's a long journey - the people I'm staying with have cats (who won't have access to the pigs while I'm there) so they also have carriers, but then would a pig be okay in a carrier that likely smells of cat? If one of the cat carriers ends up being used then it could easily go into a footwell - my own carrier's a canvas one so it could be strapped in on a spare seat easily. I'm assuming there'll be a max of 3 people in the car, so I'll get the backseat to myself with them. I forgot about the wet veggies, but that's not instead of water, right, it's additional to water? I don't drive and they've never been further than to the vet in a car.
 
If you trust them then one carrier is okay but my two won't travel together so they have separate carriers.

You don't want to use water bottles on the carriers when traveling as the car motion will jiggle them around and make them leak. Feed them wet veg and stop off regularly to offer water by bottle or syringe.

I can't add much to the above advise but so long as you clean the cat carrier out, it shouldn't bother the pigs. I have used the same carrier to transport the pigs as what the cats have used.

I always give them a large chunk of cucumber during the journey and make regular stops to offer them the water bottle should they be ready for a drink.

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your friend.when I take my piggies to cornwall,i place them in the footwell,and place a towel at the bottom of the carrier,and place hay on the top of towel/vet bed,i use lettuce and cucumber as veg.i stop every two hours to allow them to drink from a water bottle if needed.all have arrived safely !

As far as travelling with the piggies I'd agree with everything that's been said above. Regular breaks to let them move around, eat and drink are good. They usually travel just fine. I think we worry about it more than they do on the day.
 
Thank you everyone. My two are weird and don't like cucumber (except they love baby cucumber for some reason, but those are a pain to find) so probably lettuce and bell pepper for them.

I'll have to think about the carrier, although generally they're pretty good about behaviour in it, so I might be able to get away with just the one. Stick a towel in the bottom, chuck a bunch of hay on top?

Heh. Apparently I lied about cucumber - at least for Comet, he doesn't like sliced cucumber. I know, right, what difference between slices and a half cucumber except for the size? No idea, but Comet's happily munching away at a half cucumber I gave him because it needed to be eaten today. I'll keep the Lidl thing in mind just in case though, thank you @Betsy
