Hi,

I finally got my 2 baby boars yesterday and they have a nice big cage in my bedroom….. I didn’t get an ounce of sleep last night and I’m absolutely knackered today. Anybody got any tips apart from ear plugs (which I am buying today!)?

Thanks,
x :-\

Can they be moved of a night so you can get some rest? I'm a very light sleeper and can hear my pigs drinking as their water bottle bangs on the hutch!

My girls used to be awake of a night but they have settled down now and sleep for most of the night! :)

Last night I was considering sleeping pills! Lol.
Well we do have a box room but its tiny so there is no floor space for a cage as the bed takes it all up but I’m thinking I could move go in there to sleep until they settle down? That’s if they do actually settle down?!

To be honest most of the noise came from the rustle of the paper bag they were having a party in all night. Is it mean to take that out at night so they can’t rustle it? I was thinking I could swap it for a cuddle bed or something?

Thanks, x

Yeah you could give something that doesn't make a noise, my lot prefer extra hay to roll around and eat and I top the dried food up. Mine don't go in for toys for some reason, they have them but they just say well, I want food! :D

Hope you get some rest today! :)

Thanks so much for the encouragement, I was despairing last night, I’m very much a sleep person!

I need maternity leave to look after these babies!

ive got three in my room, two different cage and when they both go on the water bottle it sometimes wakes me up.. and if duke is chasing archie around i get woke up.. at night they get their beds put in and noisy toys taken out until the next morning so i can get some sleep

Sounds good! I haven't heard them use the water bottle yet, will they find that in their own time? I've left a small dish of water out whilst I'm at work just in case?

You poor thing mmmmmmmmm i'd get ear plugs :-\
Hope the little ones decide to not 'party' all night tonight and keep you up, i'd def try and sleep somewhere else... these all night party piggies ::) :D :D
I'm sure it's not mean to take out the rustling bag, replace it with something else a bit quieter like a towel they could hide under... they'll soon learn that they've got day and night things to play with :smitten: :smitten:

I can honestly say that i have only ever seen my 5month old girls drink from the water bottle twice since ive had them, it never looks as if its been touched, ive tried moving it round but they're just not interested in it but they're fine. I dont think some pigs drink much at all. As for the noise, couldnt the pigs go in the box room on one of the beds rather than you? or put the cage on top of something? it doesnt have to be on the flor aslong as is safe :) what are your pigs names by the way? What do they look like? xxxxx

You get used to it after a while!

I have 7 pigs in my room, and they are VERY noisy. They only kept me awake for the first week or so, and now I wake up panicking if it goes quiet! I actually can't sleep without the reassuring chirruping and water-bottle banging going on!

I've just been and bought some ear plugs so fingers crossed! I'll replace the paper bag with the snuggle bed and maybe a towel and we'll see how things go tonight.

My piggies are called Bodger & Badger and they are tri-coloured brothers. If someone can tell me how to put pics up, I will put one on!

Thanks for all your advice! :)
xx
