I've just caught up on this, and am so sorry about little Tulip - you are a wonderful piggie-mum, and are certainly giving her every chance. I'll be thinking of you during the night.

hi well she is still with me. She has eaten nothing and no poo. when i pick her up she is in a little discomfort with her tummy.

I can only think that the ony thing keeping her alive is the CC. After all the injections she has had there has been no improvement at all. sadly i think it will be time to say goodbye on Monday , as i don't think there is any other way. i feel so guilty but we have tried everything.

Regarding the mouse situation, i have bought some wire and will put it over the bars today. i have a large plastic box under a guinea pig stand that has the dried food in. On occasion i have forgotten to close the lid, i wander whether Mice have got in and contaimated the food. I will throw away all the food in there, clean it and then start afresh, though if this were the case then wouldn't another g.p be ill?

Sorry to read there has been no improvement but she is a fighter though! Please give her a gentle cuddle from me x

Sorry to hear there's no improvement Sue. I've had a couple of pigs like this and they have died at home before I had to make decision to put to sleep. You're doing all you can, sadly sometimes it's impossible to get them back eating normally and I think their little systems just start to shut down.

Thinking of you

Sophie

You are doing so much for her, she couldn't ask for a more dedicated and loving mum. I wish you all the best over the next couple of days, and continue to keep my fingers crossed for improvement. xx

I'm just catching up on this post and I'm sorry that Tulip is still unwell. I did have a situation similar to this with the poo sticking to her bottom. It was my rabbit Daisy and the vet x-rayed her and found a lump. They tried to remove it but it was attached to her bowel. Has the vet x-rayed her? I'm sorry this is negative. You are doing a great job taking care of Tulip and you will know yourself when the time is right. Don't be pushed into anything that you don't want to do. My fingers are crossed that Tulip starts to get well again soon :)

Thanks. No she hasn't been x-rayed. Because she has not swallowed a lot of the CC or the Bio-Lupas and it has run down her chin and tummy she is sooo sticky. Alot of it has dried crusty and the hay is sticking to her.

Sadly i hope she dies in her sleep very soon, i know it sounds awful but after having 2 lots of the gut stimulant and that not working i think there is no hope. she has been like this for 5 days now with only the CC stopping her from starving. I can't bare the thought of having to agree to puting Tulip to sleep on Monday.

Thankyou for all your kind words. They mean a lot.

I know exactly what you mean sue. When Ginger was having trouble getting around because of her age and arthritis I hoped she would slip away in her sleep peacefully at home and she did. Maybe it's a case of nursing her at home until she slips away comfortably. My thoughts are with you xx

This must be absolutley heart breaking for you, I hope for her sake, and yours, that she slips away peacefully with you. Thinking of you x

well there has been a sort of change. She is still with me, she is taking a little more CC i managed to get 15 ml down her at the last feed. When i fed her at 11 last night i as always tempted her with some cucumber(her fav) this time she ate some! She had about 6 bites. God it was so good. Thing is she hasn't eaten anything since then apart from CC and still hasn't poohed.

Her vets app is at 910 monday. I am thinking of cancelling it and maybe going Tuesday so it gives another day. This makes the decision even harder. What if she doesn't eat anymore should i PTS. that fact she ate a little is fantastic though. This could be going on for weeks and still end up being PTS.

I hope you all understand and not think me a B**th when i say it is physically mentally and definitley financially completly draining. There has to be a limit and cut of point as i don't have a bank full of money.

The CC care is just what our local pet shop had in. I tried p@h for the Oxbow CC but they had never heard of it. So where can i buy this ASAP as this might help more. Also any ideas on what else i can give her to help.

Also as she isn't eating anything solid how can she be expected to poo?

Thankyou

I know how emotionally draining it is to go through this, having gone through it for over a month with my poor baby. The last vet that I took her to (the good one), said that at a certain point you have to start measuring quality of life in the humans as well as in the animals, but I'd say that if there's some slight improvement, and as long as she isn't in pain, I'd give it a day or two extra, just to see. I feel so badly for you... I do know how much it hurts having to even consider the decision of PTS, but do want to add that probably the best thing that pulled me through was the knowledge that I'd given her every possible opportunity to get better, and done everything I could to help her.

Looking after ill animals is hard in every sense. I think Tuppy's death took so much out of me because she was the first pig I had to really nurse and fight to keep her alive. They completely steal your hearts, these piggies.

You are doing an amazing job with Tulip, and I really hope she continues to improve bit by bit.

The only place I know of where you can buy cc from is your vets. I think if she has started to show some interest in food then this is a good sign and I would definately carry on with what you are doing. If you are running out of cc the other thing you could use would be organic vegetable baby food xx

Critical Care can be bought online. SPH Supplies, Thistle Cavies, The Hay Experts (single sachets) and a few more sell it. £12ish for a 141g sachet, £30 for 454g.

Fastest posting website I know of for CC is www.vetuk.co.uk

If you order it in the morning, you should have it by Tuesday. This really is the best thing, so maybe get a small sachet from your vet in the meantime.
She may be turning a corner...it seems hopeful that she has eaten!

i agree, nursing a sick animal is hard. Because if the worse should happen you have made a complete bond with that animal, throughout the time you were nursing.

Oh hun, just caught up with this, I hope she can turn a corner and start eating.... these piggies eh? They can go right down and come back fighting fit and hun I have had that happen, one I was told to pts by one vet, I refused and I had her another 5 years, so I hope that is the case with your baby:) If it is sad news, then I hope it is quick and painless for her.... you and your little one are in my thoughts:)x>>

Sue my heart goes out to you with this. It is a hard time when our pets are ill and no one is really sure what it is. We are all thinking of you and your little one

well i am so sad to say that my darling Tulip was pts this morning. She had grown worse and could hardly lift her head. Her tummy was painful for her and after i had fed her and put her back in cage she just never moved.

I was going to give her another day and go to the vets Tuesday but i felt i had to let her go. I have tried my hardest to get her through it and she has fault as hard as she could but sadly whatever it was that was making her ill was stronger.8...

I want to add a massive THANKYOU for everyones kind words of support and advice. I couldn't have got through it without you.

Oh Sue, I'm so sorry to hear this. You did everything you could, at least she is not in any pain now and I think you did the right thing.

Sending hugs,

Sophie

Oh Sue, I am so sorry to hear this news. She tried to get better, and you did everything you could to help her get better, but sometimes it is just their time. She held on and fought and you two developed such a close and loving bond, something which was so important to Tulip and helped her cope with her illness so much better.

I know you are probably feeling a bit lost and there will be so many things that remind you of her - I found the syringe-feeding items especially sparked off a fresh bout of tears. Remember you did all you could, you were the best mum she could have asked for.

Take care of yourself Sue, we are all here for you if you ever need to talk.
Rest well dear Tulip. x

Sue, I have posted in Rainbow Bridge too but wanted to add that you did a fantastic job and tried your best, now Tulip is at peace.

You will have learnt a lot from this and can use that knowledge again. All piggies have a purpose ;)

I am glad we were able to support you through this, it is a very lonely thing syringing a piggy at 2am and wondering if you are doing all you can, many of us have been there too :(

Take care x

I am so very sorry that you lost little Tulip, you both put up such a fight. Sleep well little one and watch of mummy.

I'm so sad to hear that you lost little Tulip - you fought so hard for her, as indeed she did herself, and it's a blow that she's gone. My heart goes out to you now.

I am so sorry to hear about Tulip, I hope you're ok hun, it couldn't have been easy for you. Lots of love xx
