Hi, I'm just wondering do female guinea pigs go in season (bleed) I noticed faith was bleeding from by her bum and I'm worried. I've tried looking on the net and you get both answers yes and no. Would really appreciate if you could let me know. Thank you Carley

They do have seasons ever 16 days for about 12 hours but I've never seen my girls in season.

Is it alot of blood? It could be she has cycitis or something like that in which case she will need to see a vet. But if you're concerned anyways, I'd take her to the vets just to be on the safe side.

It's quite a few spots, she has a sister aswell they're the same age and she's not bleeding, I've never had female guinea pigs so I dont know. I'll wait and see how she is later. Thanks for your help :) x

Hmmm...I dunno what the other more well educated guinea pig owners round here would do, but I'd take her to the vets incase something is wrong, that way she can get treated quickly.

Welcome to the forum, Carley.

How old is Faith? The bleeding could be from the digestive, urinary or reproductive system.

Does she squeak when peeing/pooping? Is she urinating as normal i.e. no strong smell, no blood in the urine?

I have come across the yes/no debate on whether guinea pigs bleed in oestrus; while the large majority is a resounding no, I have also heard of sows who apparently do occasionally bleed for no apparent reason, with a potential link to oestrus cycles. If it stops within 24 hours and doesn't recur (at least for another 2 weeks) then it's something to keep track of.

ok will do, how do i use my pictures as my profile picture lol? I'm new on here

Hiya Laura she's 7 months. I've only just noticed it, her sister is fine though. When I go up mine later I'll see how she is.

It's worth keeping a close eye, it's possible that she'll bleed a little today and nothing more. Hopefully that will be the case!
