We lost a piggy last week. We took our remaining piggy, Treacle for a check up to the vet. She was given antibotics just in case.

I've been weighing her every other day as she just doesn't seem to be eating much since. I have just this minute weighed her and she has lost 2oz. This is the first time she has lost weight. Is it normal behaviour when they have lost a friend to be off their food?

I'm going to take her to the vet tomorrow anyway but thought I'd seek some further advice.

Thanks

ELF

It is probably the antibiotics which has caused her to go off her food, this sometimes happens. Get some probiotics for her and try to encourage her as much as possible to eat. If she isnt eating at all you may need to syringe feed her. Please also consider getting her a friend in some way, this can sometimes help too.

Think we have located a friend for her, I just have to organise transport which will be sometime this week.

I'm assuming it's the vet who can give her probiotics?

Thanks

The vet should be able to give you some probiotics for her, you can also buy some in the shops, but ask your vet for advise on the best one. I would often recommend Bio lapis, its a probiotic you can dissolve into water and syringe down, its made for rabbits but perfectly fine for piggies too.
