Hello, i am not to sure if this is the write part to write this on wasn't to sure.
Basically, around 3 weeks ago i got two male piggys from pets at home, they both are from the same litter- thats what they said anyway, and they would have been around 9 weeks when we got them (that was before i read about not getting them from there ect) they will be around 12 weeks now. After around 4-5 days of having them we weighed them both, The larger one (Nandos) weighed 510g and the smaller of the two (Carrots) weighed 390g. We was wondering about the weight difference so we watched them carefully to make sure Carrots was getting enough of the food and that Nando's was not bullying him, we weighed them four days later, but during this time we had to split them as the was loud teeth chattering, 'yawning', and they then started to scrap, and my step-dad had to remove one from the cage, they are now in separate cages, but they are joint and they are starting to ignore each other but also rumble at each other still, we are hoping over time they will start to get along again and we can take them somewhere away from there cages to bond. The second time we weighed them, Nandos was 580g and Carrots was 420g. Then today we weighed Nandos again and he is now 640! We did not weigh Carrots as he looked far to comfy to be disturbed but planning on doing it tomorrow ha. As you all know, Pets at Home are not to good at what they do and we was wondering weather they has mis-sexed Nandos, and infact Nandos was pregnant, as that would explain the weight gain. We took photos and put them on different websites and we had some saying girl and some saying boys. About 3 days ago we took him with us when we went to a shelter were they sexed him there, they said they was 90% sure it was a male but didn't want to get a phone call in a couple of weeks saying they was wrong. We are not to sure on what to do, and wondered if anyone had any advice or any symptoms to look out for?
Also he never used to eat his food, and he is now clearing the whole thing, as well as lots of hay and water!

Thanks xx

The weight gain to me doesn't seem like that of pregnancy and more of just a growing piggy !

Ah! The reason we was thinking this is because we read on a few websites that a normal sized piggy should gain around 1oz a week, and 2oz for a pregnant guinea pig, so we was just wondering. We have looked up the symptoms for pregnancy to be on the safe side. We (me and mum) are new to guinea pigs so we are doing a lot of research haha. cheers xx

Piggies do grow at different rates so hopefully thats what is going on. If you are in doubt you could get them checked by a vet or get a good photo of their "bits" to post on here. There are lots of very experienced people on here who have sexed many piggies

oh dear, its a bit worrying when a rescue is only 90% certain of the sexmallethead

If you can pop some clear photos of their bits on here we'll be able to confirm if they are boys or not and hopefully put your mind at rest that you haven't bought 2 and about to have a few extras!

We do have photos but they are not very clear as he does not seem to want to stay still. We have looked a couple of times but dont want to stress him out by keep picking him up and looking at his bits and bobs haha. We found out that if it is a female it should be a Y shape and if its a male its an i? That is just what we have read. The rescuer said it was very difficult to tell, but he did stay nice and still for him haha! We looked on one website and it said if you press gently just below the stomach then if its a boy its 'bits' will pop out?

The weight gain that Tiff mentions is over a matter of days. 510g, 4 days later 580g and 3 days after that 640g. What is the amount that would be considered about normal for a week? I know they all different but just as a rough idea?
