Ok so I had a friend look after my guinea pigs when I was taken into hospital. Ok so there cage was a mess and they really needed a wash. When i was washing them i noticed one of them had black flecks over there fur I check it against toilet paper and there was no change. So the next day I was brushing her and noticed all these flakey brown parts in her hair. What could it be? I have dog but she is totally flea free. I bathe my guinea's in gorgeous guinea pig shampoo for long hair, I have changed there bedding and the other one is fine. Any ideas

Forgot to say there kept in doors and have there own room away from my dog

Sounds like mites. Get both pigs to a vet for a checkup as if there housed together the other will eventually show signs of mites x

Thanks for the info, I did leave her the same hay they always get. There booked into the vets for tommorow, vet didn't think it was a good idea to transport in the really bad weather today. Hopefully I can get them both sorted.

Thanks everyone for the advice they have hay mites and one has a little skin infection from them. Just a quick warning they asked me if I had given them wilkinsons hay which I had apparently they have had a lot of cases of hay mites recently and most of them had been using Wilkinsons hay. So maybe stay clear.

Oh no! I always stick to the same hay from pets at home, dandilion & herbage something or other. It's not the cheapest but it's good quality I think & my little men love it x

Good luck with the mites, I currently have a mite situation as my new boar came to me with them, very annoying!
