Hey folks, i posted the day b4 yesterday, explaining how one of my guineas has been losing weight rapidly, he didnt go off his grub but seemed to be finding it harder to eat, He was eating very slowly in tiny pieaces. i thaught first of all its his teeth, i trimmed his front one myself lastnight and it seemed to have helped him eat bigger bits, the nearest rodentologist is like 200miles away from where i live in Devon, so tomorrow I'm dedicating my day to hopfully find a vet in the southwest withthe ability to trim them without putting him under. but i know if its his teeth he would look slightly depressed but i can see his tongue moving so his back ones arnt trapping his tongue down. I have been having to clean his anus lots as i have a feeling he may impacted rectum, but how can i be sure? I'm trying to following instruction to help empty the anus but I'm unsure on how much pressure to use and is it meant to come out in one? because at the moment its just like diarrhoea. i read something called caecotrophes, which is the result of a bacterial fermentation in the hind gut, and can be often seen in older boars along side impacted rectum. I have been syringe feeding him for the pasted 2days as he is losing weight so quickly, but I'm also HEARING what sounds like his stomach gurggleing, rummbling, like ours would just after eating or because we are hungry.
If anyone has any advice i would be most greatful. his has just gone 2years old aswell incase age may be of use. he also doesnt seem to be in pain when touching down on his bladder either so I'm clear there i hope.
i hope to hear what maybe causing these symtoms

Sorry, I can't give you any recommendations, but have you had a look at the sticky thread headiing this section about recommended vets?

"the nearest rodentologist is like 200miles away"
Where is your nearest rodentologist?
What exactly did you do to his front teeth?
A problem with the front teeth invariably means there is a problem with the back teeth.
The fact that you can see the front of his tongue moving does not mean that there is not a problem towards the back of the tongue.
I cannot stress enough that there is NO need for a general anaesthetic to either look at, or trim, the teeth.
A pig that is impacted will have a collection of first and second pass pellets stuck in it's peri-anal sack. The impacted material is easily and quickly removed. Hold the pig so you can see his back-end, ie on his back. Gently, but firmly, roll back the edges of the sack and using either a finger or a cotton bud move the impacted waste out. Sometimes it will fall out by itself. The first impacted pig I dealt with it took me 5 minutes to sort out, now it takes 5 seconds!
Best of luck.
