i have 2 piggies that are really having problems one has what i now know to be a large burst sebacous cyst about the size of a 2pence peice the vet wants to remove it at a cost of £100 (i don't have that kind of money!)the cyst has left a large crater the edges of which can't come together the second piggy has a large abcess that has burst and is sore and despite draining and flushing is looking really horrid i'm using diluted hydrogen peroxide as instruted on the peter gerney site both piggies are eating and i am giving them baytril i may have to have the one with the cyst put to sleep i really don't know what to do i have kept guineas for years but never had such problems

oh god... its terrible when everything seems to go wrong all at the same time...
could you not set up an account with your vets to pay them a set amount a week...? ive had to do it with some of my larger vet bills...

x

Can you please advise were you are? Perhaps rehoming your boys would be a better idea if it's that or pts aa both illnesses are treatable.

Unfortunately pigs aren't the cheap pets we're led to believe :(.

Most vets will offer a payment plan for unexpected bills, my vet invoices show 'amount paid' and balance to pay' on them so would assume most other vets do it.
I would also consider what has Flintstones suggested - could you surrender them to a rescue ?/ They will take care of them and rehome when fully recovered - please don't have them PTS because of this, I'm sure something can be worked out.

Thank you

i'm in stevenage uk i have kept piggies for years but never had such expensive problems before unfortunately i have just had my cat diagnosed with diabetes/thyroid and its really expensive and otherwise i might have been able to do something i'm heart broken i hate to give up

cct

i just wanted to say as well that i have contacted vedra at the cct and a rodentologist via texting and sent photos to get a diagnoses of the cyst also i did take him to my local vet hence the baytril

Are you on any kind of benefits? Sorry if its a personal question, but if you are you may be able to have help with veterinary costs with the PDSA. Just a thought. But if you cannot afford them then i really would consider furryfriends offer.

x.

I think give them a chance with Furryfriends than PTS, if anyone can turn them round she can.
The sanctuary is set up for pigs with special needs and along with Debbies care and her wonderful and very guinea pig savy vet.
