Help respiratory tract infection

Hi I really need some advice. I bought two lovely brothers 2 weeks ago from a pet store. One brother "Carlito" was a very happy piggy popcorning and running around happy. On Thursday he became very subdued.

I rushed him to the vet this morning as I could tell he was not right and the vet says he has a respiratory tract infection and gave him Baytril. He has been lying still in his bedding all day and looks like he is getting worse. He was eating and drinking up to last night but has not eaten or drunk all day. I have given him water via the syringe straight into his mouth. Am I doing the right thing? How much water should I try to give him per day and should I try to feed him this way?

What are the chances he will recover from this. I am sick with worry

You have to start syringe feeding now, when was the last time you saw a poo?

Guinea Pigs have to eat, if they stop eating there gut starts shutting down. If syringe feed him mushed up Nuggets (ie Burgess?) Do you have it?

What Guinea Pig are you feeding? Burgess is really good as it dissolve when hot water is added, mush it up and then let it cool.

You are looking to syringe 20mls-25mls at one sitting. He needs to eat.

I feeding him Pets for Home guinea pig nuggets. He has only taken 1ml of water today. I can't imagine him taking 20 mls of food. Do you force it down if he refuses? Is lifting him out of his cage to do this and keeping him in my arms the best thing to do. I just feel I am stressing him but lifting him all the time. Thanks for your help. I am going to try and feed him.
