help.. Salt Licks & Mineral Licks?

I have been browsing online petstores and have come across salt licks & mineral licks in the guinea pig section. I have neither of these and i'm now fretting that my piggies are not getting every thing they need?

Are they a necessity? Any advice would be great. Thanks
 
I've never used these obvioulsy tried them but they got ignored by every one of the pigs mind you it might be worth trying them but if they get a good diet cant see the point
 
The salt aand mineral licks are not necessary,and in fact,the salt licks are potentialy lethal.,and should never be given to piggies.They get all the minerals they need from a good diet of quality dry mix and a variety of veggies. Mary
 
They don´t need them. vegetable and fruits are enough.
 
When I originally got my first piggys people told me to get mineral licks for them, however we then heard about a piggy who died because it became addicted to the salt & mineral licks and kept at them so now we dont have them.
