I was petting my 10 month old guinea pog and I noticed a scab (see picture). Does anyone know what it is and what I should do? I can’t really afford a vet at the moment but I don’t want him to be in pain either... please help me! :(

Hello, welcome to the forum,

Hard to say without looking at the piggy.

Any signs of other scabs? Dandruff?

Could be a bite, could be a cyst, could be an abscess, could be a fungal infection. The piggy really needs to be checked out by a vet, could you discuss payment plans with your local vet?

Hi! It rather looks like burst cyst to me. Keep an eye on it.
If the area around it goes bald and develops a white crust over the next days, then you are dealing with the onset of a fungal infection.

Please start saving up for a vet fund on a weekly basis so you are able to seek vet care whenever needed. Emergencies and illness NEVER happen at a good time, and usually at the most inconvenient time possible! :(

Is it something I should worry about or does it usually heal by itself?
