HELP Scared guinea pigs

This is my first time owning guinea pigs

On Friday i brought home two female guinea pigs, which are both 8 weeks old :)

Every time i go in the room they run into there beds, they wont come out when I'm there at all, if I'm really still they will come out, but the slightest movement and there gone again.

I tried picking them up yesterday, i moved the houses and they went crazy, i cant catch them easy so i just think I'm putting even more stress on them

i picked up one of them today (eventually) and i held her close and jst stroked her, i offered her carrot but she wasn't interested
as soon as i put her back she scuttered away as fast as she could


i know guinea pigs are nervous as its instinct

but still its actually making me really upset :(

does any one have any advice?
 
They need time to get used to you. Tempt them with nice veggies and just take things slowly.
 
It can take weeks, even months for them to settle. They may always run away when you go to pick them up, most of mine still do, it is a natural instinct. But once you have gained thier trust they will come to you for food and you will find they do enjoy being handled. I have 2 babies which I have had for 3 weeks now and they still go crazy every time I open the hutch. One of them will take food from me when I'm holding her but she is still very nervous. The other one will not take food from me yet. You do need to keep handling them and just be very patient. It will be worth it in the end.
 
since most of mine are piggy piggies they have eaten al the food so when i turn up some run away but Bing stands their looking at me and if Francis has eaten all his grass he stands on his bow looking straight at me and he has cattarachs! lol
 
As you only got them on friday they will still feel unsettled in your house.
Just take things easy and when you are putting the veggies in for them talk quiet to them and they will eventualy come round.
you can always sit beside the cage reading or listening to music through head phones just to get them used to you being around.
once you work out what the favourite veggies are you can gradualy start offering pieces by hand and i am sure they will eventualy start to take it.
Even the most nervous of the rescues I have in start wheeking in no time at all when I turn up with veggies

yes i second this advice, its all good stuff, you could also put clothing you have worn over the cage, like a t shirt, so they get used to your smell,
 
i got to see them acting naturally this morning from my bed, poppy was drinking and Milly was sitting nearby and they sounded like they were talking to each other lol

but i moved my head just slightly and they darted off back into there house

i know them come out because the veggies, food and water disappear lol but it was nice as it was the first time iv seen them out ever!

il def try sitting by the cage for a while, bribing them with veggies and just trying to make them more calm.

Mine were like that for the first couple of weeks. Also, young pigs have a tendency to run/hide than older pigs. This is because they are frightened more easily than adult pigs.
 
I got a new piggie about 4 weeks old (I think anyway) on Friday too.
She took about a day to settle in. Now she's fine. We tempt her with small bits of carrot and hold her at least four times a day :) She's starting giving me little kisses now ;D
 
yeh my two are the same, they are still quite shy, didnt help me moving them into about three different hutches, but they are ok -ish now, still a little bit scatty, but they are animals remember O0

I got my two piggies 4 days ago and have already got them coming over to me when i have got there veggies,i just sat at the side of the cage and talked to them in baby talk 98).But they still run off if i make any sudden movements.
