Bless her, something may have just spooked her this time.

does anyone know about whether i put the shampoo straight on her first, or wet the fur first? i've checked her over and she has melt on her sides mainly, but the main body is only a bit greasy.

As you shampoo your own hair.
That is not meant to imply that you use gp shampoo!
It would make a change though..............guinea pig shampoo first tested on humans.

Shampoo before putting her in the water and use wet hands to lather it up. The melt is so rich it can have an almost "waterproof" type greasy coating, it does need more shampoo than water the first time to get rid of the greasiness.

I believe the Gorgeous Guinea products are tested of humans first. They have quite an impressive result too.

@Original Poster - dampen her fur first and then apply the GG shampoo to remove the melt. You probably used too much melt the first time (aaaah, not uncommon!) so it will take a few tries to get it off. Dampen her hair with a cup or so of warm water (make sure your bathroom is warm too) and then rub the shampoo into her fur as directed by the leaflet you should have been given with the products they sent you. Rinse and dry her, or repeat then dry her if you think she may need another wash.

If she's still greasy, wait a few days before doing it again to give her a break and then wash it again.

A friend of mine had a similar problem with one of her girls when she used too much melt on one of her girls and ended up with a porcupine herd.

lol...i said to my bf she looked like a porcupine!

she had another bath earlier. i put the shampoo on her fur first as there was quite a bit of the melt left. then i lathered it up with water etc and then rinsed and did a second shampoo and rinsed...and rinsed...and rinsed!

maisie was so good this time, as she was her first bath. so i don't know why she suddenly got so worked up last night.

anyway, then i thoroughly dried her with a towel and hairdryer, and she sat on my knee wrapped up in a blanket for a little bit, had some veg as a reward, and then went back in her cage with blankets and the heatpad again.

she has dried lovely this time. i could see the difference straight away, she is all fluffy this time, no trace of greasiness.

i keep checking her over and so far there is no sign of a chest infection, or anything else. she's behaving normally and eating etc.

i actually only used a small amount of the melt, about half a teaspoon that it says. i can't believe how difficult it is to remove! i also noticed last night that her skin was very red, and today it is back to pink. i really think that the melt caused the redness. i did a patch test before and it was ok, but i can't think why her skin would suddenly go red unless it was the melt, as she has had the shampoo before and been ok.

anyway, so she is ok now and is clean and fluffy! x)

thanks for everyones advice and help. :)

Not sure about the melts but you can make bath time less stressful by putting pig in the bath without water and filling the bowl up with water pouring the water on the pig from the bowl with a jug. This is what I do and mine don't mind it.

Glad she is ok though, I've never had a pig react like that, poor thing!

thanks for this advice, i did this before and maisie was so much better. :)

Certainly not!!
I have never owned a pair of winkle-picker shoes or motor bike or scooter etc.
