To those following my story, Dobby is 4 weeks old today. Todays weigh in has him at 146g which although puny is a far cry from the 39g he was born at. His mum is weaning him (actively pushing him away etc) and although he's not the magic 200g I'm thinking it might be time to separate since he is 4 weeks and clearly not going to be getting mum's milk.

Thoughts? Or is he still too small and should be left with mum?

If Dobby is fully weaned from mum and eating/drinking well for himself then moving in with Max may be the best move for him - be flexible about it and judge whether he is doing ok.

As long as he and dad are inside where you can keep a very close eye on them and monitor his progress then I don't see much reason for him staying with mum much longer. An extra feed or two a day of softened pellets for Dobby, so that he is getting all the nutrients he needs would be a good idea. Keep the amount of veg he has to a minimum so that he fills up on the nutritionally balanced pellets, this will help his body grow at a good rate.

Thank you suzy. We have pellets, which Max won't touch, so I know I can Dobby can have his fill there and they are inside in my son's room. I seriously appreciate your advice - I'll have a chat with my friend this morning and let you know. xx

Zez, could you please give me a ring so I can discuss a few things that may help. I talk a lot faster than I type.

Big name and praise to Suzygpr for your help!

And a note so that you don't worry/for any new people reading so you don't think this is a safe set up without any safeguards in place.

Yes, my guinea pigs are in my almost 6 year old son's bedroom. He has proven himself to be safe, reliable and to NEVER EVER open the cage when i am not present, not even to feed max. His conduct with the pigs and my other pets told me i could trust him. But we have the whole set up on wheels, so it moved out of temptations way when friends come over to play....i know i can trust my son, but I can't trust other people's kids when i don't know how they are with rules or around small animals. Hope that helps someone. x

Good luck i hope that Dobby and Max have lots of wheeeeeeky fun together XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Well done Suzy xx>>>xx>>>xx>>> so reasurring to have somebody who has the kindness and knowledge to help you :)
