Hi I'm new here I'm just looking for some advice, my guineapig is around 8 months old and he developed a uri about a month ago, with 0.1ml baytril twice daily for a week he recovered completley. however about a week after stopping the treatment he got sick again, i took him back to the vet and got some more baytril 0.4ml twice daily this time, however its been over a week now and my guinea doesnt seem to be showing any signs of improvement, he eats mushed food through a syringe but refuses point blank to eat anything else even pieces of apple and carrot which are his favourites, hes on the baytril for another 2 weeks, how long will it take for him to recover? i hate seeing him suffer :(. any help is appretiated.

thanks

I would take your guinea back to the vets asap for further investigation. I the mean time crush some pellets up with a little liquid and syringe feed your piggie so his gut keeps moving, syringe some water also to keep him hydrated. hope he feels better soon.:(

Thank you, he's eating lettuce now which is good and a little dry food more than this morning, gunn take him back to vet tomorrow :)

Thanks will keep up the syringe feeding

All paws crossed for your little boy, hopefully now the meds are starting to work and it's great news that he's wanting to munch on the lettuce and some dry food. Keep offering the hay and his pellets so it might just tempt him :)
sending healing wheeeeeeks from us all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks he seems to be ok, still a little snuffly and breathing fast :(, he's eating a little dried food, the little one is being very stubborn will only take his food through syringe if i force it down which i hate :( but he wouldnt be eating othewise, bought some blackberry treats for him which he seems to really like so hes had a few of those and some hay which is gone, also just wondering if there is anything else i can feed him through syringe as I'm assuming hes getting bored of mushed nuggets :( also hes refusing to have his antibiotic even tho i mix it with juice any other ideas as to what i can mix it with would be appreciated?? fingers crossed he gets better soon.

Baytril is bitter: I usually mix mine with neat ribena/blackcurrant squash.

Don't worry about him getting bored of pellets, just keep feeding him and weighing him every day to make sure that he can maintain his weight.

Thanks I'll try it with some neat blackcurrent. how can I weigh him? and what is the normal weight for a 8-10 month old piggie if you know?
