Hi! My guinea pigs are almost 3 years old and I had both of them out on the grass to eat and play. I notice one of them (Max) started to make these weird puff of air noises (I'm sorry I don’t know how to explain it) and sneezing, I immediately put the other on back into their hutch and brought the sneezing one inside. I put him on a blanket on my floor and watched him. He carried on with the weird puffs of air and sneezes, he did about 6 sneezes. I’m not entirely sure though. His eyes were wide open and nothing was secreting out of them. When I checked his nose there was a tiny bit of liquid that came out but that was it. The puffs of air slowed down and he did a couple more sneezes. I gave him something to eat and he did eat, and he is still pooing healthy, hard poos. I’ve kept him with me for about 15 minutes and there are no more sneezes or puffs of air, but he is curling up (he does this all the time, he’s very cuddly so not really a concern). I’m not sure whether I should be concerned or whether it’s just some hay that he’s inhaled (which is relatively common but usually stops after a single sneeze). Please help! I’m not sure what to do, I’m really worried it’s a uri but he’s not showing any other symptoms! help! x

Hi!

Please take a deep breath. He has obviously go something up his nose that has irritated it but that has now been sneezed and washed out. This is what sneezing is there for; in humans and animals alike. One off almighty sneezing fits are nothing to worry about unless they are going on for hours. You boy can join his companion again. ;)

PS: we do our best to answer all threads on our forum as soon as possible, considering that we are doing this for free in our free time. You can help us much more by stating the nature of your problem in the title so you don't end up at the bottom of the line when we deal with whatever doesn't come with a tag.

Hi! Thank you so much, he seems to be fine now, I put him back outside and he was very excited to be eating more grass, daisies and playing wi th some chew toys. I’ll keep checking on him obviously but not too worried anymore.
I did realise after I posted that the title wasn’t too helpful but I couldn’t change it and wrote it when I was in a complete state so was obviously not thinking properly about that. sorry! ❤️
