Help! I'm SO worried about one of my guinea pigs.
It started yesterday morning, when I started to hand feed one of my guinea pigs some of the breakfast in their cage. He just sniffed it a lot, and then he opened his mouth and put his mouth over the piece of celery, bi down slightly (I could feel his teeth touch it from the other end), but didn't bite down on it so that he could eat it properly. He eats grass and hay fine though, and celery is part of his daily diet, so it isn't new to him at all. I then tried carrot, some broccoli, but the same thing happened. After that he got annoyed with me and went back to eating grass.
I thought it might just be a temporary problem so let lots of grass for him to eat so he wouldn't starve.
I tried again today, he seemed a big more eager, but still wouldn't bite the veges. He lives with another guinea pig who eats fine.
I'm really busy so I can't really bring him to a vet.:help:
I am worried sick about him, he is nearly going to turn 2 years old soon though.
WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!?

I am sorry, but if your guinea pig is having trouble eating or biting into food then he really does need to see a vet.
It could be a problem with his mouth or teeth, and once a piggy struggles to eat they can go downhill quite quickly.
It is good he is still eating hay and veggies, but if he is avoiding using his front teeth he may have a problem with those.
I understand you are busy, but the sooner he is seen, the easier and quicker it will be to sort out the problem.
I really hope you can make some time to take him to a vet.

I would be suspicious of a dental problem with the back molars, but unfortunately there is no way to know without him being assessed by a vet who has experience with guinea pig teeth. They can use a scope to view the back teeth. Going off some foods is one of the most common signs of early dental issues and it's better to address it sooner rather than later. I would also fun your hands along the contour of the jaw to feel for any lumps, as sometimes a facial abscess can be the underlying cause for dental issues or pain while chewing and can present as a lump along the jawline.
