Just gone out to feed my babies and winnie is bloated and really quiet.

She's huddled in a corner and really cant be bothered. She let me stoke her but is really quiet and looks swollen. She was fine earlier on

Help? Urgent advice please. I'll take her to vets first thing but is there anything i can do now for her?

Vet asap. One on my piggys went like this years ago she was dead by the morning. Please dont wait like I did. 8...you cant hang around with guinea pig.

Please ring your vets emergency out of hours line, its important she sees a vet asap. Sorry I'm not much help. Please keep us posted. I hope shes feeling better soon.

x

cant get to vet until morning, what can i do tonight to make her more comfortable. what do you do with gripe water?

3 mls of gripe water to start with. Then massage the tummy. I have then given 1 ml of gripe water every few hours. I had a piggie with severe bloat and although I took her to the vets the next day, she was already well on the way to recovery.

thank you furryfriends i'm on my way to tescos now to get gripe water, anything else i should get?

If not gripe water - get infacol....and zantac -one 7.5mg tablet crushd in 7.5ml water - fed 0.2ml/kg

Hoping your piggei recovers
xx

just gave me winnie her first dose of gripe water, it was quite tricky she really couldnt be bothered, she is so pitiful. she just wants to be left alone, after the gripe water she went back into the corner of the hutch. i'll try a little more in a few hours, then first thing in the morning straight to the vets. i hope she'll be ok, could nt bear to lose her, i lost my maisie last year to teeth problems. fingers crossed!

she's gone.8...

she passed away in the night. i'm soooooooooooo upset. i cant believe how quickly illness happens with guinea pigs, she was fine yesterday morning, she was her usual self. my other guinea pig blossom who lived with winnie seems lost, she's looking around the hutch.

i feel awful could i have missed something.8...

I'm so sorry. Piggies hide illness so well. You did what you could for her. Hugs for you and Blossom.

Goodnight little Winnie. :rose

I'm so sorry she didn't make it, I really feel for you. :(

I've successfully treated bloat with Buscopan and Infacol, plus massages, but then again I have had no cases of acute bloat where pig is not eating, drinking, pooping and is hunched up. The latter is more of an emergency situation and is far more likely to point towards a blockage/torsion being a cause of the bloat.

I'm sorry things didn't turn out better for Winnie. xx

I am so sorry for your loss. Sadly, bloat is one of the few things that can kill within hours. Sometimes, even a vet trip straight away won't save a piggy that has it really badly like your girl. Please don't blame yourself too much!

I hope that you can find a new friend, girl or neutered boar, for poor Blossom.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss, you did everything that you could do to help her x
