Over the last night we have lost one of our Piggy's, we have looked everywhere and asked neighbours but she has gone :(

We only had 2, so the remaining girl is alone and keeps squeaking for her friend :(

How long will she surviving being alone? I am going to go to the Blue Cross tomorrow and try and get another.

How do we got about introducing a friend?

Wed are moving from Oxfordshire to Sussex in 4 weeks, would it be better to wait or will she get really upset being on her own that long?

Thank you.

I am very sorry you have lost a piggy must be very distressing for you and her friend. Were they indoor or outdoor piggies? Piggies can live on their own but much prefer company, give her extra attention and food treats and if outside extra hay to snuggle up in and/or a snugglesafe to help keep her warm on her own. Some piggies will accept a soft toy to snuggle into if they are lonely.. maybe worth a shot. You will need to do introductions on neutral territory and there are threads which hopefully wiebke will post if you are lucky. Hope you manage to move ok and everything gets sorted in the long run! best wishes, eleanor

How do you think your guinea pig has managed to escape? Is your hutch secure now for your remaining one? xx

I'm sorry this has happened , do you know how she managed to get out?

I hope your remaining piggie is coping okay.

Hi! I am sorry that you have lost one of your girls. Has she managed to escape somehow or has she been carried off?

In view of your move, it might be better to wait a bit - it will give you time to set up everything properly and arrange an adoption. You can either look for another girl (age not important) or a neutered male (age not important), but they should like each other if possible!
I have successfully bonded two three year old sows and one of them half a year later with a young neutered male.

Guinea pigs are usually in deep mourning for a few days and will be very withdrawn and listless. Most will come out of that and will face life again. As soon as there is company, they will be completely changed characters. However, if a longer wait upsets you, and her, too much, you may look for a new friend sooner!

You can also post in the rescue centre WANTED section (please state the areas you want to rehome in), so that any rescues active on here can contact you.

To be honest we don't really know. The only thing we can think of is that a fox or something got in, we have had them for nearly 2 years with no problems. We did notice the dog going a bit mad through the evening (and no it want the dog, she was in all night and takes very little notice of them)

They live outdoors with free run of the garden, I hate seeing animals locked in cages.

I have locked the remaining one in the hutch for the night, and will do so every night now until we move.

Its such a shame, because it was early evening/nighttime they came out to play.

have you got a picture of your missing girl?

sorry to hear that she has gone missing.
