Help! White Stuff In My Guinea Pigs Mouth!

Last night my guinea pigs were fine, i woke up this morning to find a hard white in my guinea pigs mouth, it looked like he had something stuck in there so i touched it and it was hard and sticky, what could this be?..

I'm thinking maybe a fungal infection?

Welcome to the forum.

Pigs can get oral thrush, which can show up as white stuff in the mouth. It is treatable but needs a proper diagnosis from the vet. Whereabouts are you? Recommended vets can be found using the vet locator tab at the top of the page.

Please have him seen by a vet as quickly as possible as an emergency, especially if he is not able to eat or drink.

I agree he needs to see a vet. That doesn't look like oral thrush but possibly the result of him playing with himself and it will need carefully removing.

Have just got back from the vets, they believe it was an ulsa that got infected and weeped, they did admit it was a strange one though lol, course of anti biotics for 5 days

Please weigh him daily at the same time insteady of weekly and top him up with hand feed if necessary. He may not be keen on eating if the ulcer is painful.

What a shame nobody, including the vet, picked up on this. Poor lad is now on an unnecessary course of antibiotics. I do hope his gut isn't affected by them as can so often happens - especially as he didn't need them in the first place.

I used to find my lads in a mess like this at least twice week - it's quite normal.

I don't think we can really make these assumptions based on a photograph. Taylor has done absolutely the right thing in taking the piggy to the vets, and antibiotics have obviously been deemed necessary by the vet. I'm sure they did not take such a decision lightly.

Corinne has actually said what I was referring to further up, I just didn't word it that well. It does look like boar glue and the description of how it has gone solid was another sign. Obviously it is difficult to tell from a photo and the vet has seen it in the flesh so to speak but it does look like it.
