we have been approved as a home for dandini from rspca walsall so now need help getting him here. so happy that maisie will have a new friend, and always nice to help another piggy have their forever home aswell. i hope they like each other.

we need to get him from walsall west midlands, to manchester.

if anyone can help i would be so grateful. i will be asking my brother if he can take me part of the way so i will update when i hear back from him.

thanks x

poop, I'm in Liverpool.. let me know if things go a bit weird and he ends up near chester! I can pick him up and finish the leg. Wont be more than a 2.5 hour drive time for me in average traffic :)

thank you for the offer. x

When are you planning on having him? I may be able to help out as I'm down south to see my family soon as my nan's just gone into hospital I could always tie it in on the way back x

well whenever we can find anyone to help really. anytime from this weekend, or the one after. anytime in the next week or so really. when are you going down south?

sorry to hear your nans in hospital. x

if you're only south manchester/cheshire, i might beable to get a lift to you by either my brother or my mum and dad. they're on holiday from tomorrow until next weekend but it isn't too far to you, and we travel near enough that to the vets anyway.

It's most likely going to be the weekend of the 8th? I'm happy to pick him up on the journey back and drop him off to you :) If you find someone in the meantime who can do it earlier let me know x

Thankyou, it was kinda expected, so it didn't come as too much of a shock that she's in hospital x

Will there be fights over music choice on the long journey? My guineas did not approve of radio one, much rustling and squeeks, but preferred radio 2 with more chewing and snoozing (when we did a Newcastle to Liverpool jaunt to pick up Vincent!)

best wishes for your nan!

It's a pleasure :). Just spoken to my parents and confirmed I will be travelling down on that weekend. So I can bring him back with me when I travel home again :) Let me know when you want to sort details x

Haha! If he is anything like my Fudge there will be. Whenever I have music on or he hears the phone ring he starts rumbling and will continue until the sounds stop! So we usually have to travel with the music off rolleyes because his highness requires it!

Thankyou x

you're a star! he is with 'x-vic-x' so i think you arranging with her is the best thing, as i am always around so can be ready for whenever you want to bring him. do you have a particular day you were planning to travel back? x

Yay - I'm so pleased you have found your boy :))
We've adopted from Vicky, Walsall RSPCA and all the piggies in her care are what we refer to as 'Vickified' i.e. used to hoomans, healthy and easy to handle ;)
Really pleased for you and Dandini, so exciting having a new arrival to prepare for :(|)

Really pleased for you! Glad another Walsall piggie has found such a wonderful home and will be staying on the forum. Vicky from Walsall does amazing work.
I love the way people on this forum all pull together for each other, its a great place to belong to.

Righto :) I shall get on to that this evening. I'm not sure, it'll either be the sunday or late morning on Monday but I will have chat with Vicky too so we can arrange a day that is best for all of us! I'll pm you my mobile number :)

vickified, lol, i like that. i am excited and nervous aswell. so happy for maisie aswell because i think she really needs a friend. she's a little quiet and jumpy today. i don't think she likes the nights alone. x

it's a nice feeling to beable to help another piggy from a rescue find their forever home.

people can be so lovely. i had tears in my eyes when offered help with the piggy train, and when we were approved. rolleyes we're getting a car hopefully this year so we will be looking out people and piggies to help if ever needed. :)

i feel so rude, i didn't even offer you any petrol money :red i will of course help out with that aswell. x

Hi Guys,

I can do pretty much anytime except sunday mornings, you will just have to let me know when you want to pick Dandini up.

Hi Guys,

i wanted to ask you a couple of things if that's ok. i was going to let dandini settle for a day or so before bonding. is this enough time for him to settle? i am making a smaller c+c cage for him next to maisie whilst he settles. they will beable to see each other through the bars.

then the next day i will be building a bonding pen with c+c grids again, somewhere neutral and introducing them in there with some hay and veg but no places they can 'trap' each other. i thought maybe see how the initial bonding goes for an hour or two, then if all is well, get the cage neutralised and everything sterilized and then move them into there. does this sound ok?

the other thing was, will he come with the pellets he is currently on? and a list of the veg he is used to etc? then how soon can i switch him to the pellets we use?

sorry for all the questions. x

Hi

feel free to ask as many questions as you want too.

That sounds fine for bonding, 1 day or 2 to settle will be fine. He isn't the sort of piggy that is bothered by travelling, I guess he is going to be a little scared when he first arrives but he was eating food from my hand within the first few days of arriving here.

He is currently being fed on Burgess excel, I will send you enough for about 7 days, but you can start changing him over virtually as soon as he arrives, just gradually mix the 2 together. If you have started bonding them at this point Maisie will probably eat a little of his food aswell. I do find it is much easier to change a piggy's food than a bunny's. There is a full feeding guide of what veg he has and when in his adoption pack, plus a lot of other bits of information.

When we got our guinea from newcastle we had a bonding sesh on day 1, then he came back with us (despite whopping scraps) on the same day, the next day we put them side by side in a large pen for about 6 hours. And the same set up on the next day but after 2 hours I removed the barrier, much chasing but also much escaping. They got bored of it after a while and could get as close as 6 inches without it escalating. Again, same on the third day I allowed them lap time together with a big blanket that covered them both. They went into 'hide' mode and when I lifted up the blanket 20 minutes later he had his legs wrapped around her head and she was asleep :P

They were both dominating each other quite extremely, but in the end it seemed like it was just him trying to boss her and her saying "uh uh boyfriend, I'm no one's handmaiden!" Eventually they settled down but they were in the same cage by day 4. I guess it was the speed of things that made it easier for him to accept change. Of course every piggy is different!

thanks, it was the pellets i wasn't sure about. maisie will be pleased she will have some of his pellets aswell!

i've sent the adoption fee aswell now so that's sorted aswell. x

I had a look at Dandini on the website last night, what a cutie. I said to my husband, 'this pig doesn't know it, but he's about to go an amazing home!' So nice for you and Maisie xx

aw thank you. he's lovely isn't he. it will be nice to see maisie have a friend again. x

it's coming around so quick. i'm making a little c+c cage for him next to maisie's for the first day or two, so i've got grids to wash down and a base to make. i thought just a 2x3 might be ok, as it's just for a short time? i hope that will be ok anyway. i expect he will be nervous and hide away alot to start with.

i've got everything i need to neutralise the cage for them aswell.
