cuddles

I have been contacted by a woman with a guinea pig bleeding when she picks it up and has maggots coming out its bum.she said it has been getting thin and probably not eating. It is now 10.30pm on a sat night she is not willing to get the vet or to pay any medical bills.I will pay but she doesnt want to.I do think eauthanasia is best at this point but i have told her to bath it and try and clean the affected area, dab a little lavender oil on the fleshy exposed bit(it will burn the skin but will safely kill the maggots) keep it warm and dry off well and spoon feed a little honey to keep his guts going. She is not willing to intensively care for it and has 8 children and cant be bothered.I live 6hrs away so cant just go and get it(but i want to) any other advice?

It sounds like flystrike. That poor animal needs to go to a vet because it will be in agony. Lavender oil will do NOTHING except cause more pain and irritation. HONEY? No way. Feeding it practically pure sugar will do NOTHING to keep its "guts going". The pig needs proper food and care or be put out of its misery by a vet.

Call the SPCA or humane society and direct them to where she lives.

Wow Jess she is being absolutely cruel! I think you've done all you can. What can you do if she isn't willing to try. Fingers crossed you can win her round. I'm actually saddened by this. :(

Yes it is flystrike. She is unwilling to treat and i know what i have suggested is not right but she wont do anything.spca do not care.I am guinea pig rescue and deal with the spca I dont know her adress and so can not do anything.she has contacted me through my classified.she wont get anything else and so peter gurney book suggested honey and so this is what i have told her

I have got her to agree to ake the piggy to a vet local to her tomorrow and then i will pay all the bills and he will be sent down to me when fit to travel.from what i can get out of her she noticed some maggots in the cage last week and thought it was the bedding. The guinea lives with a rabbit.she got home tonight and went to check it and found it like this. She had bathed it and then put it outside so is probably got a chill

oh my god, i feel sick and saddened that this creature is allowed animals. i dont know who the spca is, but they sound less than useless!:)>>>

The spca are an animal welfare organisation and i deal with them as they send me guineas that have been abused/neglected/abandoned/signed over or in a pound. The problem is that because this woman has contacted me and i have never viewed the pig and can not substantiate my claims as it where or give them any of her details they are powerless to go off and find her. They are also pretty useless and guinea pigs are still very low on there priority list

Oh Shize......... this is so dam sad omg love you've done everything (you're such a great girl xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)
wt heck is this person doing with animals if she can't care? (takes deeeeeeeep breath) right we have to rid her of animals....is this possible?
Blurry hell the weather has been so up and down poor little thing has no chance if another rotten change of weather comes thru... 8...8...8...
Good luck sweetie xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx you've done your best love you're fab xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

How sad - reading that makes me so angry and sad! Well done to you Jess! My fingers and toes are crossed for this poor little piggie xx

If the guinea pig has had it that long and is bleeding from the bottom I can only see it being pts. The maggots will just be eating away at the poor little mite. Seen a few that have come into work but if any one rings up about maggots we get them in straight away. So sad for the little might.

we had a rabbit with it, but luckily we noticed within an hour or two and rushed our little harry to the vets for treatment, if i remember rightly, they said if it had been much longer you HAVE to pts because the animal would be in perminant pain and its not fair and its hard to treat

Thanks everyone. She has agreed to get the pig medical treatment which i am paying for.luckily i am a vet nurse and so the vets in her area have agreed to only charge me for materials used to clean the little fellow up

aww, I'm so sorry,at least hes not suffering anymore cxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx8...:0

poor little thing. RIP, despite what cruel owners you had. Absolutely disgusting.

I'm sorry to hear that little Joe did not make it. Take peace knowing she is no longer suffering xx

OH NOOOOOOOOO
RIP little Joe, run free at the bridge sweet boy, popcorn and have fun playing with all the other piggies and munch on the green grass xxxxxxxxxxxxx
(((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))) for you love, you deserve a medal for trying xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>
