hi

I have an elderly lady (7) who lost her remaining friend earlier in the year. I initially felt it wasn't right to try and bond her with a new friend. However I wonder now whether she might be happier with a friend

She has company of other pigs who live in the adjoining enclosure but is this enough?

Or at her time of life is she better to be a bit more peaceful.

If anyone has gone through a similar dilemma it would be good hear from you

Thanks

Hi! I am very sorry for your loss!

It very much depends on how well and chipper your old lady is. She would be rather incommodated with a lively youngster, but you could contact the RSPCA Walsall and see whether they have a laid back adult neutered boar in she can date at the rescue. that way it's up to her to make the choice and you come home with a mate only if it is working out. This branch is piggy savvy and it offers dating for sows and/or neutered boars and speed dating with baby boars.

it is good that your lady has got next door neighbours for stimulation, so you can take your time to look around and set up meetings. You will also have to consider what to do with the new piggy when she passes away. it is great that you are caring so much about her happiness!

Thanks for your reply, she is still fairly lively for her age.

Think we will see if we find a suitable date for her

i think they appreciate a friend at any age. it would be lovely to find a nice laid back neutered boar for her

Good News we have found a lovely male neutered boar who is 5ish and from a local rescue

He has been living with my lovely lady since Friday and they are now inseparable and she has come totally out of her shell again. It's brillant to watch her getting back to her old self

Thanks for your support
