Help with dust free indoor guineapig bedding?

Please advise. My new piggies have been inside for three days. We've tried wood shavings and megazorb plus and minus puppy pads. Having problems with dust and hayfever even from expensive hay. Son has allergies so would like to avoid fleece washing. I do have a horse supply shop nearby.

I use auboise which is hemp based and fairly dust free. My OH has hayfever and dust allergies. In the winter he can get away with anti-histamines every other day but has to take them everyday in the summer anyway, pigs or no pigs! We also have an air purifier that we have to use almost constantly in the summer and sometimes in the winter and the pigs are in our spare bedroom wth the door shut at all times. (But he can cope with them coming downstairs at weekends)

I use Carefresh and don't find it particularly dusty - but it is rather expensive and proving a bit hard to get hold of at the moment.

Kaytee clean and cosy paper bedding is brilliant, but a bit expensive- you can get it from Amazon subscribe and save though and save 15% if you get 5 things (we get 4 packs of Kaytee, fancy hay and pellets every month)

I have fleece bedding but use Carefree bedding on the bottom of hay trays for my Finn and Lara, and that works well. My Finn and Lara live in seperate cages for obvious reason but close to each other.

I also have 6 hamsters and I use Carefree bedding on all of their 6 cages. My hamsters all live separately.

I find carefresh gets extremely dusty after 5 to 6 days.

I use it for my hamsters and there bars and toys are covered in dust from it.

I know you wouldn't be keeping it in a piggy cage that long. But just letting u know

Has any one tried auboise bedding? Currently on puppy pads and megazorb but very wet after 24 hours and a bit smelly. I'm wondering if i give them too many veg?

Does auboise keep the smell down?

We've been trying Hugro bedding from zooplus that is very similar to aubiose- its very good, comparable in absorbency to our usual paper Kaytee bedding but a lot cheaper. Easier to put in but a bit harder to clean up. Definitely be buying it again!

Thank you. I've always had my pigs outside but due to arrival on a small, very fluffy pig they are currently inside. I can't decide if the smell is hay or bad guineapig smell. I'll look at that. Going to try some easichick bedding too as a friend has that.

Does auboise keep the smell down?

Mine don’t smell at all. It wouldn’t work as well with pads or anything underneith it though. It’s designed to let pee through (so the top stays dry) and soak it up from below so is there are pads then they will soak it up and smell. The wetter the area the better it works too

i use aubiose both for inside piggies and hutches,i use an inch depth.i use puppypads underneath and found the opposite to the above poster.no smell until cleanout time,wet remains at the bottom.i remove all the bedding every 7 days ! It is what is best for you and your piggies that matters most !

I haven’t tried it, I just though it might work like that! Glad it doesn’t!
