Hi guys ,

I'm after some advice, I've read that piggys should have fruit sparingly once a week, but have a cup of at least 5 veg types a day per pig every day. This seems an awful lot of veg. Is their any source of info like a list of what foods can be daily weekly every 2 days ect ? I'm also conciouse not to give veg to high in beta carotene as this can cause some health issues. Please help ! As the pigs are Hong the have access to unlimmted pellets at the moment and always have fresh hay in their cage

Kind regards
Alex

Hi!

Here is a very good guide on the subject:
Recommendations For A Balanced General Guinea Pig Diet

It can be a little overwhelming the more you dig!

Too much fruit can cause diarrohea or chelitis (sores on the lips). Veg too high in calcium can lead to bladder issues. This has all been covered in the link above.

If your piggies arent used to a full cup of veg per day then you can increase the quantity slowly to avoid upsetting their guts.

:agr:

I was getting very anxious about their diet until I was shown the above link. Using the daily veg on the above link was my salvation . Nowadays, I use the daily veg as the main part of my Guinea Pig's diet - and give other items on the list as a treat.

Thanks guys all printed I will try and make a week by week plan and see likes and dislikes honestly such a tricky areya for g pigs lots of other small furrys have specific diets but are not at demanding as piggys !
