Hello,

This is my first post here and I need some advice. Ii have seven guinea pigs 1 male and 6 female. They all live together in a big hutch linked to a two storey hutch so lots of room to run around/sleeping compartments and tubest etc to hide.

I have noticed today that my oldest Malibu a 4 year old female has some fresh bites on her when I picked her up to put here in the run. They have all been in the run today and I have deliberately sat outside reading/gardening etc most of the day to see if I could establish if it is one particular piggy bothering her but nothing? The bites are on her side just below the ears.

I am not sure whether to separate her as I have a spare hutch but I don't want her to be lonely and what if I put the one in with her that has been bothering her?

Any advice?

Are you sure they are bite marks and not mite bite marks - maybe where she scratches too?

Welcome to the forum by the way :)

Thanks for the replies ;D

I have taken her to the vet today as it didn't appear to be mites. The vet has said it looks to him like a bite mark which is not infected. He suggested I keep an eye on her and bathe her in salt water. If I notice any reddening around the wound I'm to take her back.

Not sure who the culprit :-\ is as they have all been getting on the last two days and I have been off work so have been able to keep a closer eye on them. :police:

well done on checking it out, its a shame when they dont get on maybe it was a one off and you wont see anymore but then again you never know, the boar doesn't live in withthe girls does he? or is he neutered? my girls all 15 of them are intoghter and get along fine never had fights at all in my girls runs in fact, try making sure there is plenty of food bowl and drinking bottle so no arguments can break out over that, plus plenty of hidey places which you have already done, having lots of room for them is the key to harmoney amongst them I truly believe
good luck, hope it doesn't get infected did the vet suggest cleaning it with something like hibiscrub for infections?
