So I've got my boy out to check him over, it seems he's possibly impacted and he's still leaking urine (there may have been a bit of pus?) when you touch his genital area.

I've never had a boar before so I don't really know what's normal and what's not or what I should do now/look for?

I'm hoping that someone can get him to the vets tomorrow as I'm at work.

He seems to be eating plenty of hay, shrieks for his veggies now and eating nuggets and he's maintained a weight of 550 odd grams. He seems well in himself albeit still a bit boney. I've given him some alfalfa hay to try and bulk him out a bit.

Any help would be much appreciated, I dread having to sort out this probable impaction though! :))

I think I've missed your first post about him leaking urine. Was there a reason why he's leaking urine and having pus around his genitals?

I'm on my phone are the moment so I can't post the links, but have a read of the boar bits thread. Impaction tends to happen to an older boar when he loses muscle tone around his bottom. Is your boy old? As that could explain the impaction and leaking.

He was neutered before he came to me by a dog & cat vet, ever since he's leaked urine and I think they must've messed up his downstairs as he appeared to leak urine from his anus for the first week, now just from his penis and seems impacted?

I've only had him a few days, he's almost 6 months old now so not old. I think they must've damaged the muscles inside :(

Aww, the poor sausage.

I hope he gets seen by the vet tomorrow and they can see what has happened and how to fix it.

Impaction is gross but you do get used to it quickly. One of my boars had it for years and I surprisingly got over the grossness early on. It's just something I had to do.

It sounds like your boy really needs to see a specialist cavy vet.
At his young age he obviously needs proper treatment to ensure a good quality of life going forward.
It sounds like right now that is under threat, so I would try and have him seen by a reputable vet asap.

I completely agree, this is a horrible situation for him and I worry his muscles have been damaged... :(

Has anyone heard of this happening and if it can be fixed?

Luckily my vet is very good and I've already explained my concerns prior to getting him home. I just hope it's something "easy fixed".

I won't lie, I'm completely out of my depth with this and I can't find any similar circumstances online and I'm pretty worried. Especially as I'm relying on other people to get him to the vets as I have to work til Wednesday... :(
