Hi everyone! I'm new here so first I'll introduce myself. I'm Claire and I'm owner to two girls, Dolly and Emmy-Lou. I'll post pics in future.
Anyway, I'm sorry if I'm not supposed to do this or anything but I really am worried. I will of course seek vetinery assistance first thing in the morning but I can't sleep with worry.
My younges is Emmy Lou. She's only 9 weeks old and a beauty! I adore her. A few days after I got her, I noticed a very small hard lump over her skin at her neck. I should have sought help I know, but she was eating and drinking and playing etc as normal. She has been itching it a lot and today let how a squeal so I tool her out to examine it. Overnight it has turned into this big red sore and looks awful and painful. I'm not sure if first time posters can post pics but I'll try

Anyway, I'll go to a vet first thing but any advice on what it might be would be hugely appreciated! I assume the redness is from itching?
Thanks in advance!

Firstly welcome Claire, Dolly and Emmy-Lou to the forum :)
oooh that does look nasty :(
I'm not able to advise..... but i'd gently bathe with warm water and dab dry and then call your vets first thing in the morning.

Hi Claire

Welcome to the forum!

I can;t help with what it is - but what i think it isn't is
mites
fungal
cyst
abcess.

It "could be" an infected bite wound.......but I've not seen something like your piccie before, especially on one so young. So I suggest that you need to make sure you have a cavy savvy vet and your are not fobbed off with a bit of baytril.

Based upon your piccie (and i accept that quality and definition might be compromised) - if it were my piggie i would want biopsy straight away on this if the vet can;t give me a definite diagnosis.

Thank you both for your reply. She appears to be ok otherwise. I think the redness is really from scratching it. I'll ring my vet and ask if they deal with guinea pigs and hope they do! So nervous for her. Didn't think I'd get so attached so quickly :(
I'll keep you posted! It is a possibility that Dolly bit her, although they get on well but she can be a bit bossy.
