I am upgrading my 2 new piggies to a C&C cage tomorrow! My plan is to use it with a sheet of Proplex underneath but I'm struggling with ideas for the floor/bedding. At the moment I've been using saw dust but we all know how messy that can be! I've been looking at fleece liners but they're a bit out of my price range for the next 2 week's so I'm looking for ideas of what else I can use? Any ideas appreciated!

You don’t have to buy fleece liners. You can buy fairly cheap fleece blankets from B&M - two for £4.99, put towels and/or puppy pads underneath to soak up pee (don’t forget to prepare your fleece so that it wicks moisture away). Mine also have home made pads under houses/tunnels and around high usage areas. These get changed every three days. I use a large gravel tray with a puppy pad then a layer of shavings or Aubiose on top, then lots of hay where they can burrow, forage, pee and poop too! It’s almost like potty training them! This gets cleaned out every three days too, and I do a full cage clear out once a week. I poo pick every day - sorry that’s a horsey term but it’s the same thing - clearing the poop up out of their cage! It brushes up nicely with a rubber hand brush and dustpan £2.49 from B&M too. I’m sure your piggies will enjoy their new cage whatever you decide to do!

Thank you so much! I thought you had to use special fleece blankets 🙈 How do you prepare the fleece? I thought about putting a cat litter tray with hay in there but unsure if they'd actually use it to do their business!

You need to wash and dry the fleece approx three times but don’t use fabric softener - just wash powder. Test it after each dry by putting a bit of water on it - once it soaks straight in and doesn’t bead on the surface of the fleece, you’re good to go. A cat litter tray with hay in will attract your pigs and as they’ll spend time in there eating, peeing and pooing, it helps keep the rest of the cage cleaner. You can’t train pigs to potty train like rabbits unfortunately.

Ah this makes perfect sense! Thank you so much for your help!
